I must have missed all the problems? I for one had a great day of racing Sat. The only thing that I Knew that went wrong was the start time was delayed. But that did not bother me at all. I do like racing and following a set of rules but I don't think for weekly racing that things have to be runned supper strick like you would a big race. I for one wish there was more time between rounds because I would like to help some that are struggling a bit and there is just not enough time to prepare my car and help others as much as I would like too.
As for the one hour start to finish per round I don't see how this could possibly work every week with not knowing how many classes there will be.All though it is a good starting point.
I have had a great year of racing and looking forward to the 2006 year of racing.
Glenn you and Ron have done a good job I would not like to be in your guy's shoes to try to please everybody because it can not happen. But if we all work together we can keep on inproving things! I also like the TQ prize. That added a nice touch. Anyway I'll see you guy's next Sat. Hope everyone has a good week. Laurie
George!! Work on your car this week if you don't mind!!!! I am not use to lapping you! HAHA

Sorry to hear that you rammed your car in that hole in the wall. Try not to do that next time.!! I'm also going to do my best not to run in that damn 4x4 I have a tendensie to miss the flapper and hit the 4x4. I had told Glenn that I would put the border up to fix the hole you are talking about and I over looked that SORRY. I will make sure to fix that Saturday morning. Your new car looks good. I may have get me one. Laurie

then i get the advanced or better drivers like you and Brandon complaining we take to long.
I haven't commented on this whole situation but somehow my name got drug in it somehow, even though I wasn't there??
Well, if I'm going to be volunteered, here's my opinion, the one's who don't have a problem waiting on the same individuals are the ones who can manage to go out to eat afterwards and still get home before me, so yes, I would like to keep the program on schedule. The ones who hold the program up have a short ride home.
I don't have a problem with starting at 3:00, but if we start at 3 then screw around throughout the day and I get home at 12:00 when it could be 10:30, it makes it frustrating.
It's kinda like the cable company, you only have one option, either race and get home at 11:00 or don't race.

Very good point, and your right you never can, but if it's consistent and you can expect the same thing from week to week, it helps. See you guys later, hopefully I can represent the Rosewood crowd well at the Novak Race!!

Glenn, Ron, Laurie and George
I want to first say thank you all for the things that each of you do! I know that Rosewood is a GROUP EFFORT from all of you! I don't want any of you to take the things I post as NEGATIVE! Rosewood is the ONLY carpet track around that ALL OF US can get to on a regular basis. So with that said my comments are to only try and HELP BETTER the racing!
I know of a couple of guys that want come now because they have to drive a few hours and don't want to get home at midnight every Sat. night.
My comments were towards the SAME FEW ppl that hold the program up EVERYWEEK and have been doing so from day one!
Glenn and Ron you both know who I am talking about!
Glenn I see your point of "damned if you do, Damned if you don't" I in NO WAY want to see guys stop coming, we don't have that many racers as it is. If they got used to a regular program they would have NO PROBLEMS! I m not saying that when a new person walks in that they will not be ready EVERY ROUND on time, I undrestand that there are times and situations that need to be adjusted for. They are just scared now that if something changes they may not get to race. But if most of the guys that travel would be HONEST they would tell you that Rosewood has a rep. for being very unorganized and relaxed. The relaxed part I think ALL of us can live with. But there needs to be some structure.
Glenn make a suggestion to the ones that tend to forget thier batteries. Charge Two first thing, that way you ALWAYS have one ready... I know Steve B. does this EVERY RACE, cause I have had to borrow one.LOL Or get a marker and write a note and put it on the place you set your car down in thier pit "START BATTERY" that way when they come back from racing they will see the note and Remember to do that. IF they consistantly wire the motor backwards suggest DEANS plugs!
As for the part about starting on the hour every hour.....I know that it may not work if you have 10 or more heats but with 30ppl and 6 heats per round IN NO WAY SHOULD IT TAKE almost 6hrs! How many times did I yesterday say "I thought we were starting at x:xx and no one moved for another 10 mins? I know I said it atleast 2 times. When you say we are starting at 4:30 the person calling the race should be up there at 4:25 calling that race to the track. Not going up the steps at 4:40 and then have to give that race 2 calls to the track and then extra mins for one person to get there car ready beside/on the track....See where I am coming from! There is room there for relaxed. If you give a few extra mins in the break, FINE but don't give them EXTRA time right before the race also. That is what HOLDS up the program.
As for the time between races and getting your car preped and helping others. If you race on the hour every hour you have 45mins to fix prep and talk between the time you come off and the time you need to be ready. 7mins for racing and 8mins for marshalling and the rest is yours. And that is without having to wait on anyone.... But lets be honest isn't that what the track is open for 5hrs before the racing starts? That is the time you should be TRYING MAJOR changes if that is what you want to do. Between heats is not the time to make them.
And Laurie...... How much changing do you really need to do? You race the same track EVERY WEEK the WHOLE SEASON! You can't make me believe that you are doing that much wrenching between rounds. Plus you are one of the guys that always says "I sit out in the garage and rebuilt my car this week" So you shouldn't have ANYTHING to do on race day but charge batteries, RIGHT? LOL You should be able to help ANYONE and EVERYONE!

Not a good time to go to Thailand. My brother works for the CDC and he has home for the holidays and is headed back 2nd week in Jan. to do some thing. He won't tell me what is going on so I guess we'll have to watch the news. (Bird Flue my guess  )

I had a great time racing Sat. too! The kid I brought with me is one of my employee's son's. He had a great time, and as soon as he saves up some money he will be buying the mini from me.
As far as start time you could go to 2:00 pm as a happy medium. Also, maybe plan for someone else to call some races as Mark and Myself were standing there one time for a few minutes and there was no one upstairs to call our heat as Ron was trying to run his car, and Glenn was busy.
Once you have all the racers entered on race day, figure up the time for each round, announce it, and stick to it. Dont let anyone hold up the show. I have missed many of my heats trying to keep up too many cars on race day. Thats all good, you wont hear me complain much. On the race days that I can, I will help out in any way that you need me.
Jimmy, when are we leaving for Thailand?!!
Everyone take care, and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!

Anthony- soemtimes it's not always wrenching that you need time for between rounds. What about the fact that the tires are foam and need to be trued? Or you may chunk a set and need to get new ones ready. As the tire changes you have to re-droop/tweak and ride height. I think 1 hr is enough time, but to say someone shouldn't have to do anything at the track between rounds doesn't work on carpet, LOL. Asphalt yeah.
I too come with my car prepared, but doesn't mean things don't have to be done between heats.

Hello everyone. :)
What is the difference in performance between the IB and the IP cells? I contacted ProMatch and they said it is just a matter of manufacturer of the cells. Does anyone there use them, and what are your results? The batteries I have now are getting somewhat aged.
Good racing to all.
The IBs are pretty good, it's the batteries most are using right now. I just heard of the IPs earlier this week. Not sure if anyone at Rosewood is running them yet.
Had fun racing today. See everyone in a few weeks.

Had a ball tonight. I got lucky in the main. Todd was running me down and past me in the second to last turn, we hit the last turn and i sqeeeeked by just a hair to get to the line. i think we bumped each other but like i said, it was pure luck because he was smoking. If Dee ever learns how to drive that car of his, we're ALL in trouble. He went by me on the straight away like i was standing still. That car is smoking. keep it up Dee. Good win for the Kid tonight too in 19t. John North won the tires for TQing in stock and won the main as well. Good run John and good luck in Maryland.
I want to thank Mark Painter and George Ryles for putting down the wall molding today and Laurie for being the supervisor and Ron for assistant supervisor. Mark, you got a free race next time at the WOOD. I really appreciate you guys helping out this old man. Well, i quess i'll see you all next week. Results will be posted tomorrow and our new web site will be ready next week. L8tr.

Thanks, Glenn, had a great time tonight! About have the car drivin' like I want it, just need to work on the driver some more. I think the hp is coming from that 3700 battery pack I won at the Wood recently. That thing has some kick! :D

Nice radio,, only thing is, it seems to respond quicker than the 3D. It's like the car was turing when I thought about turning the wheel instead of turning the wheel and then the car turns. Gonna take me awhile to get used to it but, hopefully, I'll get there.
Did a few laps quicker than I've been doing but my total number is still way off, but I'm trying, (very trying!) to get it together. My goal is to do better than the L-main at the Birds this year.
By the way,, used the 3D's 27 band module in the 3PJ and it worked great,,, after I reset the radio to PPM instead of PCM. The Hitech Spectra module works in it too!!
Anyone want a used Lynx 3D? No, not the one that's been dropped, the other one. It wont be much, let me know if interested.

Thanks for the help on battery info guys. :) ProMatch does have a good reputation for the product they provide. I still have a few of the 2400 NiCd packs I bought from them about 5 years ago, and they haven't let me down.
For those that are interested, I talked to a gentleman in Jacksonville today that told me he and some other drivers are getting together on Saturday and Sunday afternoon at a local skate park to set up a track and have a "run what you brung" day. Not anything like organized racing, just a bunch of rc drivers getting together for a day of fun. RC should stand for "Radically Cool". If you stop having fun with something you like to do, then it is time to take a break or move on.

Thanks for running me so clean in the Main George...Your alright , i dont care what they say about ya...lmao
I figured out why my car kept shutting down right after the big sweeper..I thought it was the Spektrum shutting down like it does with Glenn's Mini , but when i took the battery out of the car last night , it came out in 2 peices!!!!
I guess everytime i would roll through the sweeper it would lose just enough contact to shut it off , then when Hank picked it up and shut it off then back on , it would make contact agian..lol..Still turned 20 laps after that happened 4 times...HAHAHAHA

Here I am trying to figure out the radio stuff, not to metion the car, and you guys wanna run rubberr tires? Okay, I still got my old X-patterns mounted up. I'll run them.
As for the radio, I gotta see how many receivers are out in the shed, and which module I want to part with. Do I run the 27 band that's getting more and more open but only 6 channels, or run the 75 band with 30 of them? I have three 75 receivers and maybe 8 27's???? maybe less I'm not sure,,,,,,Actually, I should sell them all. Hmmm, hows this? 2 Lynx 3D's, one on the 27 band and one on the 75 band with a synthesized module, both with NicD's and multiple receivers for both, for what would anyone offer?

Jimmy, What type of tires for 19 on carpet?
The lower the better. 22's if ya got them. You just have to know how to prep the tire before you run them. I'm digging around for an old set right now..
Justin asked me if I wanted to run rubber tires.. not you! haha.. You just butted in and said you'd run it too! :p
Anyways, I'm not expecting anyone else to run rubber tire. I'm just doin it for fun and to try something different. I think George and Laurie are still gonna run foam class whether it's 19t or stock.

I also have one of the Vegas races on the ipod too. One from RCTech. I converted it over. Looks the same as it looks on the puter...
Plus I downloaded a couple hundred pictures too.

Did I see rubber...Heck yea maybe next week as I just got back from the Novak race. I would run. Man now time to rest up for a week after racing all last week long, but well worth it as I placed 4th in the A main overall in stock rubber, not bad seeing I had a DNF in A1.. at 1 of the biggest races in the country for rubber tires...Not bad for a Old Man...LOL

Naw, I'm just gonna try to run the 415 in stock some more to try and get used to the radio. There is one thing about useing the 27 module in it though. I noticed the little icon on the screen that says RF isn't on when the Hitech module is in it but its on when the Futaba one is. BUT it still works. Go figure,,,

Go to the Trinity website, look under forums, then tracks, and you'll see ILP at the Wood(I think). That is where all the offroaders chat. They can hook ya up with any info you need for the "dirt". hehe.... As for Josh... He comes by every now and then. Look up Leadfoot on here. I think that's still his screen name. Hey Jimmy, you can use mine from the 415 if ya want!! LOL (seeing as it's his setup anyhow!!)
Car ran awsome yesterday, still can't figure out what the driver did to get it that good. (for him) I replaced 2 rear bearings in the car to tighten up the rear wheels (like 2* camber changes!!) and then set the car up according to the sheet, (except for the droop as it's not on there!!) and went from there. The tires were new Parmas Plaid and purples and cut to 58mm. So,,, who wants to bet this was a fluke?? Whatever,, I had fun for the most part yesterday and I hope the luck continues for a little while,,,

well we made it back from MD. Had a good time up there track was fast but technical. i didnt have the best race day but still had fun. my first qualifier was my best one turning 22 laps in a 5.05 after that i only managed to make 13 more laps the rest of the day. haha john ended up running 23 laps in like 5.08 or something and qualifying for the Bmain and mark ran 21 laps but somehow made the A-main haha even after telling them twice it was wrong his name still ended up in the A-main with 24 laps, he is better than i am cause i would of ran it, but he ended up finding the guy who was on pole in b and switched places with him. so mark ran in the B and was having a good run till one guy decided to punt him into the leader. mark decided to pull off after that. John ran a heck of a race running 2nd the first minute and a half until guy hood got by John fell back a little but then with about 1 1/2 left in the race he started reeling him back in , getting right up on his bumper waiting for him to make a mistake, until the same car that ran into mark decided not to move over for the leaders and sent johns car airborn. i ran 7 laps in the c main until i got hacked into the wall and broke a c hub. all in all a good weekend we had fun, sat next to some fun folks and had the most fun bench racing with them i think. the race was not ran as well as last years but it was still ok.

Were you guys driving Miss Daisy?
I did a Mapquest from Goldsboro to Orlando.... Its 530 miles straight down 95 and 50 miles on I-4.....You should be driving ATLEAST 80mph on both roads, 110mph if your Tag!

Like I said, I sorta slept through most of it. And then there was the I-95 truck fire and the Olds overheating. BUT, we didn't do 80 either. I think the fastest we got might have been 75 or so and then only for a little bit. Who knows,, I may drive my T-bird all by my lonesome this time. Just to see how long it would take. (better take a gallon of coffee and a few boxes of No-Doze,,)if u drive by urself it still be 20 hr u stop, eat, then restroom, every 1hr, about when u get there club race start, first heat :o

I am in dire need of a rear ball diff for an old HPI Pro elec TC. I think the Pro-2 rear diff would also fit. If anybody has one and is willing to sell/barter, could you please PM me. P.S. I'm a member of TRRAC and will be at Durham on Sunday.
I've also got (3) Losi XXXS's (including BMelton's all-graphite pro car) plus about $400 in graphite and titanium parts...I'd like to trade for a Nitro TC! I'll also have those with me on Sunday. If you wanna see pix of the pro ride e-mail thumperdcs@msn.com and I'll send some (too big to upload here).
Take care,

Had a great time. Thanks for showing me the ropes. After getting the secret traction compound at dinner I still can't get it right. I may be the smelliest car running the track but I'll work it out. Next time I'll try and actually race. Also thank you Laurie for the deal on the batteries. Much apprciated for a beginner with a notebook full of things to get for the underestimated TC4.

Just to throw it out there. I am looking for a list of things I will need to be competitive for racing. It would be nice to have you guys make a list of things absolutely essential to have either for the car itself or for your pit area. I have been looking at Novak Millenium Pro chargers on ebay and almost bought one. I am still a little reserved and need more input before I spend some money. Again thanks for the time you spent showing me the ropes Saturday.

I am sure Jimmy will help you out on a good list, but just for starters.... I would recommend the LRP Pulsar Competition 1 or 2 charger instead of the Millenium pro. Just for the simple fact that it will run a lathe & break in motors and they are about the same size.
JimmyMac
01-22-2006, 08:55 PM
Mike, like that John (jtn) said, the LRP Pulsar chargers are great. Just do not use the discharge feature. I melted my old LRP charger doin this (internal fans malfunctioned). The Novak MP chargers are great too. I had one. But the LRP offers more features/bang for your buck. So if you can find one of those for cheap get it. If not, and the Novak is in your budget, you can't go wrong with that either.
Since you are just starting out racing, best thing is to just come out and race and find out what you really need. Besides a good charger and some descent batteries, get some spare parts like arms, steering knuckles, caster blocks, rear hubs, and hinge pins. Also, a descent ESC is something you should have. Is your Brushless ESC also a brushed ESC? Get a good stock motor. Right now the Monster Stocks are the ticket. Ask John Tag (aka Express Motorsports motorman) for a good one. I would get 2. One for racing and one for practice. I could give ya one free for practice. I have too many laying around.. hehe.. Did Laurie talk to you about direct solder or using Deans Plugs? If you use plugs.. only use Deans. They are the best. There is another good connector called bullet/euro/corrally connectors. I used to use them. But if you don't pay attention, you could plug your battery in backwards and fry everything. If you want to direct solder, get a good soldering iron. If you don't have one, Glenn actually sells a good cheap iron for like $18 +/- at his store in town. That's the one I use. Works great! Or you can pay alot more for a Hakko.
Blah blah blah... hehe....

The Novak I have will do brushed mode as well as stock mode. So I shouldn't have a problem there. I am watching a few of the LRP chargers right now as well as the Duratrax ICE charger (not sure of the quality but have read good things). I have no problem buying a stock motor or two. I have a Snap On Butane powered Soldering iron that I use all the time. I already have cut off my Deans plugs I was using and will solder from now on in as it takes no time.

the ice is an outstanding charger. saw a few newer racers upgrade to one last year...their speed went up! it does motors...graphs..thermal charging...discharging..the works! for most "die-hard" racers, the discharge rate is a little low (10 amps). but there are ways around that! :D. the ice is my current primary charger! you get a lot of charger for $$$ you pay for it.

I have a Novak Millen. Its not the PRO version (little older) That I haven't used in a few months if you are interested I will let it go for $40! I want be able to make it for two weeks.
Just let me know and I will bring it then.

As for a charger, I have a Victor Hi-IQ that still works great. There isn't a manual, but this is the easiest to use charger ever made. It'll charge, discharge, cycle, run motors, motor lathes, it even has a volt meter if you need one. It'll even do lap times if you want! It'll need a power supply though. Hobbico's will do fine. Yes,, it's old, but it can do NiMhs as well as Nicds as everything is adjustable on it. Like I said, it's pretty easy to use. 100.00 and it'll go home with whoever wants it.

I'm gonna convert the setup over to the 415 and see how it does next week. If I don't like it.. then the EvoIV will be my car for the Birds.
Congrats to the winners. I'll catch yall next weekend!

Jimmy, you were telling me that i could use a losi thrust bearing in the X-Ray diff...I pulled my diffs apart and the reason it was getting really tight toward the end of the day was cause the (carbide ball bearing axial , part#963030) was trashed big time...Everything else in the diff is fine...Is this what the losi bearing would be replacing?..If so , do you have the part # for it???
Thanks

I think you posted the wrong part number, that number is for the belleville or spring washers... I think you mean #930138 (the 2 washers with the bearing/race inbetween). If that is what you mean, then yes... the Losi thrust bearing will work. But I do not know the part number. I got mine off of Keith Trapp. So he may know. Or Brandon or Anthony might know as well. Or you could always buy a Tamiya! hehe...

Terrell, I will post up the EvoIV setup after I take a shower. I'll even mention some changes I will make. But I won't be racing the EvoIV this weekend. I transfered the whole setup over to the MSX. I wanna see if the belt can smooth out the car. As for the center posts... it was a no go on ordering them anyways... they sold out of my aluminum diffs. So it was no use in making the order. I did find that during the main when I got TBoned... it bent one of my rear aluminum hubs!! That and destroyed the 2 rear bearings with it. So I know that hurt me. Anyways... I'll be back... then I'll photoshop up a setup for ya..... Oh and one other thing... I'm using MS bulkheads on my EvoIV. They are same dimension as the standard EvoIV bulkheads...
Geez, this is the first time I've been able to get on here in days!
I'm s-l-o-w-l-y making some progress with my driving. Having alot of fun with the Mini. So much, I'm putting the 'ol Losi back together, to see if I can make a few laps next time without wiping out suspension parts.... :o

Terrell, the EvoIV setup file is too big to download here. Just I posted it on RCTech. Just click here (http://www.rctech.net/forum/showthread.php?p=2107782#post2107782) for a link to the page. Scroll down to my post aka.. KilRuf...
Some changes I would make would be using AE 60wt oil (maybe even 70wt). I think the XRay oil is more like AE 45wt. I also used the new aluminum damper retainer (1mm down type) #53876. Don't forget that I also used the HPI Pro4 aluminum steering knuckles with Pro4 front axles with Corally steel dogbones. Also don't forget that the front block is a "B" block. Not "1B" block. The B block sits 1mm higher than the 1B block. This gives the car some kickup. Any questions just let me know...
