Well the subject states what happened, at my local track they have some guy in the tower pushing a key whenever the car passes. maybe i got robbed, maybe he narrowed the margin, hell i dunno. My question is are all tracks like that? is there something the shop owner can invest in to make lap counting more accurate? If there is whats it called so i can tell him.

I race on a dirt track and what we do is pretty accurate.First of all there is a small computer module that each car gets attached to it,than there is a wire that goes under the track at the start finish line,so every time you cross the line it gets logged on the computer. What is nice about the system is at the end of the race you can actually see all your lap times compared to the other drivers. This system does have it flaws to though, for instance if you lose control of your car and cut through the infield and miss the start finish line your lap wont get counted, the other drivers usually notice though and the error will be corrected.Hope this helps!

dirtoval is right. A transponder sytem will solve the problem. Only thing is they are expensive so the track owner may not be willing to get one.
Heck, If you came that close then be happy. Your on the right track and maybe next week you will make it by .01 sec. Just have fun and the Amain will come.
