They are easy to install. Somejust plug right into your receiver, others do a split through your throttle servo leads.

I have an ofna failsafe in my boat and in both my cars... All you have to do is plug them in and they're extra small. Cheap insurance.

Is the tmaxx already set to add a fail safe? Will I need to do any cutting or splicing to hook up wires or does it already have connecters?

All of the failsafes I have ever seen just plug in between the throttle servo and the receiver.

One thing, though: failsafes are not factory set correctly! I have a friend who installed a KO failsafe and did not set it to his car. When his transmitter batteries dumped his car went full throttle! The failsafe did what it was supposed to do: when the transmitter signal drops off it moves the throttle to a preset position, in the case of my friend, it was full throttle. Make sure you set it and test it before you need it.

Very good point.

You do need to calibrate them, he should of read that in the instructions really....

No, you don't need to do anything except unplug the throttle servo at the rx, plug the male side of the failsafe into where you just removed the throttle servo plug, then plug the throttle servo into the fem side of the failsafe. Floow the instructions to set it and you're finished.

Prob on a Tmaxx is what to do with the wires? Most use dbl stick tape and put the failsafe on top the rx box and run the wires thru the hole for the crystal. There is not enough room in the hole where the servo wires are run to add the failsafe wiring - it'll pinch something as you tighten the box down. I put mine on top and ran the wires thru the hole for the crystal. Can pull the failsafe wires over and still get the plug in far enought to seal it or just use a piece of tape. The dynamite race guard wires' are too short to do this and I read about probs with that one. the Ofna one worked great for me.

Along with the failsafe you'd be wise to add a throtle return spring if the truck didn't come with one. It covers the stuff the failsafe doesn't.
