View Full Version : P2k Pro and Cyclone ESC
I just received my P2K Pro motor last night and it says do not solder motor capacitors to the motor because the motor already contains capacitors inside.
Do I still need to solder the Schottky Diode to the motor? What is the purpose of this Diode?
Thanks,
Tim

just don't put it on backwards, look in the novak instruction manual for the proper way to put it on

you can solder the shockty diode if you want to. if you do you will have better braking.
J mAn,
Thanks for the info.
I'll go ahead and solder it on.

The schottky diode keeps the short created by the application of brakes from backfeeding into the ESC, thus heating up the brake FETS.
Simply put, on the Cyclone and Atom, just put it one there. It is the thing to do.

I made the mistake of putting a schottky on backwards once. The first time I hit the brakes, I heard my car backfire. The diode broke clean in half, I was surprised how loud that thing was when it popped. You can also just solder a diode across your ESC motor wires to avoid putting one on each motor.
I use motor connectors, and I just soldered a diode where I soldered the connector to my ESC. 5 bux for a pack of capacitors? I don't think so! =)
