Well time to build a new track at my new house and i was wondering if anyone had a good way to kill off grass? this digging it all up with a hoe gets old after the first 5 or 6 tracks. So if anyone knows of a fast and easy way to get rid of alot of grass please let me know

One of the easiest ways is to spray the whole thing with RoundUp. Then once its dead, drop the mower as low as it will go and cut it down. Whatever is left will dissapear once you start running on it. Another way is to use a Tiller and then rake out the loose grass afterwards. The easiest is to do what I did last time. Pay someone with a Bobcat to skim off the top layer. Man that made it real easy.

I heard that if you mix softner salt and water that will kill it all even the weeds and nothing will grow for a long time

no tips on the grass, gas maybe? http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif But a question for you since i want to build a track in my back yard. what kinda dirt is best? the stuff at my house is full of rocks and doesn't last very long i spend more time with maintenance than using it! any methods you guys have learned to get the stuff to stay formed better?

use sand, top soil, or clay works the best...

My track is mostly a mixture of clay and top soil, it seems to work pretty good.

You could roto-till it. That worked for me.

Do the opposite of what dockman said. Cut the grass as low as you possibly can, then spray it with roundup. Roundup can only kill so much, so if you cut the grass first it gets rid of most of it. Do it at medium first and then as low as the setting will go, then spray roundup or grass killing stuff on it.

opposite of what I said?
Roundup will work on normal to tall grass with no problems. If you cut the grass first and cut it to low the roundup will not work. The grass still needs to be green for roundup to work. The plant will then take it in and kill the whole plant. The idea of the mower is to get rid of as much of the dead grass as possible. The rest will disappear on its own. Especially once you start running on it.

a weed whacker is the best tool ever, just mutilate it down to they ground.
