im looking for a hull 48 to 57" long. anyone know of a good builder on ebay?(or wherever)
where would the best place(best deal) be to get a transom setup?
for all around fun, would a double or single rudder be best?
would it be best to have a prop shaft come out of the back or the bottom of the boat?
would a water cooled or air cooled engine be my best bet?
would a zenoah 26PUM be a good size engine for a say 55" boat?
sry im a newb at this and have many questions!

slat, if you haven't already been there click on this to get to Jim's RC Boat Dock: http://www.jrcbd.com/index.shtml. Scroll down and look to the right for the forums.
You'll get all the gas info you could want. I frequent the site.
Most monos these days are running surfacing drives which pretty much means the shaft will exit the transom. This is what I'll be using for my new 48" scatch built mono. I cut out most of the parts over the weekend ;) .

The Zenoah 260 is a bargain. You can get them brand spankin' new for about $270. You'll have to add an appropriate pipe to extract the power. Probably cost another C note :( . I think that it'll do fine with a large boat but you probably won't be vaporizing the water. Thats the reason I scaled down my scratch build boat plans from the original 57" to a much smaller 48. You could pay a lot more coin and buy some pretty hopped up engines including highly modified Zenoahs and Quickdraws. Depending on the level of mods, the Zens will start at the stock $270 and go to about 500 or so. The complete Quickdraws are in the $700+ range and they boast 6.5 hp and up  ! Water cooled! Water cooled!

A double rudder system will allow you to turn well both left and right. Obviously, it will have more drag. Usually a single rudder is mounted to the right of the prop. It turns well to the right but not so great to the left. Most racers will have the single setup.

Go to this thread and you can read all about it and see some great pictures of Chilly's boat. One nice looking wood mono!

If you really want me to, I can email the plans to you. They have to be opened up with a special program that will open dxf files. If you have an Autocad program, that will do it. You'd also need an oversize printer (plotter) or take it to a place that can print the plans out of the dxf files. It may all be more than you want to get into at this time. You'd have to come up with the wood, too. Dumas DV60 may not be a bad option.

Check out Forabuck on ebay. For the money, he builds good hulls.

What is your end result in your boat would be a good question to think about. If you want all out speed get out your wallet. Or do you just plan to play at your leasure at your local watering hole. I have done both build my own and buy a hull and build. They are both fun both of my 52" Deep V's run Stock 260's one with a wet pipe one with a hanson pipe. The wet pipe does about 42MPH the one with the hanson pipe does about 55 MPH.
Just remember after you start the hobbie and get the first one running you will change it to go faster anyway. So think about where you will run it and then all your other requirements first.
Just my two cents ;)
