View Full Version : New KO Propo VFS-1 Pro and VFS-1 J Electronic Speed Controls

The new VFS-1 Pro and VFS-1 J has now been release in the US. Features a smaller footprint (28.0x25.0x14.4mm), 32 throttle steps with 64 different frequency settings (0.9 - 12kHz) for each throttle step, maximum peak current 3120A (FET specs), Maximum continuous current 780A (FET specs) and a weight of 18.8g. Other features that have been added are Neutral brake, frequency of the brake, BEC voltage setting (2.5V-4.0V), throttle response, and current limiter. New software and setting card will be available at the same time of its release to program these features.
The Pro version comes with the BEC factory default setting at 2.5V and the J version is set at 3.5V. The Pro version includes 12GA wire unassembled and the J version includes 15GA wire assembled. The specs for the two are identical.

Seeing that ESC next to that receiver is just amazing! I am a little concerned about the low BEC voltage though. Do they expect everyone to run FET boosted servos?

I thinks there's some information that's missing or in error. I know they wouldn't set the BEC to run on 2.5 to 3.5 volts. I'm guessing the meant to say "amps" or there's a whole bunch of new receivers and servos that operate on really low voltage. ;) I'll check with the KO guys today.

No it's a different setup for the voltage/servo's.. kinda like a cutoff deal... If you read the website... you'll learn more about it. I don't know how to explain it. But it's adjustable as well.

I run the ESC and it's very nice. However, in order to tune it... you must have either the Programmer or the Computer Cable. If not, you are stuck with one frequency. So I would recommend this only to the hardcore racer. I have the Computer Cable that hooks up to your Serial port. You can tune frequency to your throttle position. So you can have high freq at full throttle and low freq at low throttle. This is useful to tune the ESC to be track specific. Of course this might be too much for the average user. The on/off switch also has the setup button on it so you can tune it to your radio. So there's more to it than just the tiny square box.. hehe... Don't forget the big capacitor too! Not shown in picture.....

I did check with KO yesterday and the information is correct. The voltage at the receiver is 6 volts, but they said it's common that the voltage supplied by the ESC is typically in this range. I've never bothered to put a volt meter to it, so it appears I learned something new. ;)
