You should be able to put a helicoil in the head. I'm not sure what kind of luck you've had with real engines, but you may want to put a dab of loctite on the helicoil to prevent it from moving. Is it a 1/4-28 or 1/4-32?
Keep us posted.

If you install the helicoil correctly in the correct hole size for the coil, you shouldn't have any probs. The repair will be as good as the original (maybe a little stronger). Its best to use a kit made for the size you are going to use for the repair, that way you have the right size drill, the right size and kind of tap, the correct tool to actually install the coil and the right size coil. To repair a stripped threaded hole you've got to use a bottoming tap - cuts thread closer to bottom than a taper tap, and you need all the thread you can get in that kind of repair. I've used them a lot and they work.
They have saved me a lot or money - mostly on 1:1s and motorcycles, but I've used them to save the strg knuckles on my HB Lightning Pro1. I was so impressed at how well that worked and how strong it is, when I bought another Pro1, I just went ahead an helicoil'ed both knuckles. Better than new.

nitro- a helicoil is basically new threads for a stripped hole... like a sparkplug hole in a real car...
duster- im gonna be doing it at work where we do helicoils on real cars so im 99% sure they will have everything for the size of head... hopefully they do :D
i will keep u all posted...

The early one was called a GS21R also. I think they just called the newer one "updated version". I know I still have the parts list for the early version (came with my landmax). If it has the same bore it will probably work.

i've never seen a cyl head with threads in it. are you talking about the block? i've gone a size up and just drill a bigger hole in the head and cut new threads in the block.

u must have a seperate button head... most cylinderheads have a threaded hole where the glow plug goes into...

Question? Does your head have 4 or 6 screws holding it on?

Was doing a little digging and found these engines. GS21R (new, black head) part #74722, GS21R (old, blue head) part #74721 (I have this one. Came out around the same time as the MP-5), GS21X (silver head) part #74341. All these have 4 bolt heads and are interchangable. GX21 part # 74023 has a 6 bolt head. Haven't found any info on your engine.

The numbers I listed are engine part numbers. You said you still have the instructions do the list the part number?

i cant find that part number... god this is frustrating.... the engine i have is almost identical to the gs21r except the head color and they call it the gs21...
