WOOO HOOOOOO!!!! that was a blast, last night i ran my first race w/my b3. It wasn't exactly pretty but i had a great time and learned a whole hell of a lot. Right now i just need to focus on driving.. i realized last night to stop spending money on my car to make it nicer.. just freaking drive around the track w/o hitting stuff and i do allright. Hehe, my first race i didnt exactly "finish" as some people call it, but i had fun. The total damage on the night: 2 sets of servo gears gone.. i was told to buy a high quality servo and a better servo saver so thats my next investment. Well.. just wanted to fill you guys in, i had fun. r/c rocks, especially i liked the way how the experienced racers just got right into it and almost took it upon themselves to help me win.. they were reefing on my car doing this and that and they explained it all to me in my terms so i understand a lot more now. It is sooo fun and i suggest it to anyone who hasnt raced before. I was nervous going into it but the friendly people made it worth while. God i love this hobby!! oh yea by the way.. i just want to say to any of you experienced racers out there, if you see a newbie coming into your track give em a hand, you have no idea how much it helps and how it makes us not so nervous. I had a blast... and considering all of us had the infamous "first race" at one time... be cool and help out.

I too had problems stripping out servo gears. Take apart your servo saver and make sure the top plastic piece around your servo saver tube rotates freely around the tube. If it is too snug, you might have to use some fine sand paper and LIGHTLY sand on the inside of the plastic piece. Also, make sure the spring isn't tightened too much. That will almost disable the servo saver. I did both of these things and ended my problem of breaking servo gears.

Speedracer - It sounds like you're hooked! It's good to know that you had so much fun and you were at a track that has so many experienced drivers that are willing to help. I believe that the racers at your track are like most others around the country with respect to their willingness to help newcomers. I just think we hear too much about the few bad experiences rather than the many good ones. Thanks for the post! http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif

BTW - What grant said!

i also did my first RC race last weekend..... it was an outdoor off-road track.. and i had tons of fun... most of the "fast" guys were out of town at our district championship, so i guess that made it a bit easier....

i tried signing up for "beginner electic" but they didnt have enough people to have that class.... they ended up combining all stock buggies and trucks into one class.... man, i thought, oh no, i am gonna finish last.... but here's what happened...

heat one- crashed like 20 times.. had the second fastest time though...

heat two- put a new bigger pinion on, the track has two long straights... so i figured why not?? LOL... gearing up helped me keep up better on the straights (i only have regular sport packs, everyone else was running matched/treated cells)..... i turned in one really fast lap (the only lap i didnt crash... LOL).... crashed about 18 times the other 7 laps.... and took another second place....

third heat- there was one section of the track that i crashed at EVERY lap (the double after momo for you green tree park, st louis rc fans)... so for the final heat i just told myself to slow WAY down in that section..... it worked!!! i ended up catching the guy who had beaten me in the first 2 heats and i managed to work my way around him.... i only crashed 3 times in my last heat and squeaked out a TQ for the main....

now the bad news.... i had tickets for the first Rams preseason game... and i ran out of time... i had to leave early, and miss the main... DOHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! To quote the terminator "I WILL BE BACK!!" http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif

the one thing i learned at the races was this..... slow down in the sections you have problems with and don't crash.... slow is fast... i can not stress that enough....

also, i was using my old B-2, with bushings in the tranny, with a zip tie keeping my two rear a-arms from coming apart in the middle, with sport batteries, with the cheapest servo known to man..... and i TQ'ed all these guys with the best of everything!!!!

i have to admit that i practice every night... if not at the track.. then at my house... just goes to show... PRACTICE is worth more than any hop-up known to man...

have a great weekend guys... i am off to the motocross races this weekend... AND.... i gotta put together my NEW Factory Team B-3.... (i couldn't resist!!!!) http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif!!!!!

Man,
I had my 1st race almost a year ago, I had a GREAT time at HRH Raceway, and the workers are very friendly. Too bad I DNF in the A-main, after pitting, the next lap I got hit by another car after I landed in the straight away going to opposite direction.

What happened was that I was around the middle of the pack, and some guy was catching up, so I went too fast over this jump, and landed in the straightaway going the wrong direction! I was hit by a GT going top speed and one of my AA battery went flying in the air! My engine died, and a shock poped off. No major damage though, just needed some new batteries http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

It was fun though, now that summer is going, I plan on racing again! The track is kinda far though, but that wont stop me! http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/biggrin.gif hehe

when you get a new servo, buy a new servor saver as well.... the one you're using now is not working....
