I was looking around on the internet for the dirt spec xxx to find some prices. Why is it so much cheaper than the original xxx. I thought the dirt spec was supposed to be better. At Horizon Hobbies it is $149.95 and the regular xxx is 199.99. Whats up with that? http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/confused.gif

The XXX-Spec cars and trucks are for "cost controlled" racing. Something new they're starting. The "spec" kits come with most of the same parts as the regular XXX though. Here's the info from www.teamlosi.com (http://www.teamlosi.com)
====================================
Team Losi is proud to announce the new XXX-Spec truck and buggy. Through creative engineering and parts swapping these economical off-road racers live up to the XXX standard of performance. The XXX-Spec kits benefit from the same advanced engineering, exclusive materials, and on track development as the National Champion XXX buggy and XXX-T truck. In fact, a lot of the features and most of the parts are the same! Just a few of the more important and unique features include:
Rugged XXX transmission with Teflon sealed ball bearings and adjustable dual-disk slipper.
Exclusive XXX long arm suspension package for incredible stability and razor sharp handling.
Precision engineered, interlocking assembly minimizes parts and gives exceptional rigidity.
Refined geometry and repositioned shocks for better rough track handling and control.
Molded chassis with a dropped center and radiused edges for a lower CG and added ground clearance.
Blue anodized shocks, headed suspension pins, molded outdrives, slider type drive shafts, and the use of bronze bushings on the axles are some of the differences that allow the XXX-Spec kits to offer XXX quality at such an economical price.
Both the XXX-Spec buggy and truck also feature Team Losi’s cool blue colored “Dirt-Spec” tires, brite blue rod ends, front bumper, and rear motor guard. Although conceived for spec class club racing, the incredible durability and performance of the XXX-Spec truck and buggy can handle the most extreme back yard bashing with ease. Look for the exciting new XXX-Spec kits to ship in November.

The Spec truck has dosnt have the hard coated shocks, has slider shaft drives instead of the universal drive shafts, and has bushings in the wheels instead of bearings.Also it has the spec blue tires instead of the "racing" tires. Its really not a bad deal.

Well I am getting the triple-x soon when I get the money. I want to race stock. I am not going to use it outside at all. Should I go with the regular XXX or get the Dirt Spec XXX?

yes thats true, i have them all around my xxx, and i have them in fronts for my xxxt and so does my dad, they smell really funky (and it doesnt go away either) but they have shown no signs of wear, and they hook up great on EVERYTHING cept for manybe blue groove, but they dont have to many of those up here in new england.but they work great on very hardpacked dirt+clay, also on asphault (And they dont wear, but grip great), and on loose stuff.
but get the normal kit, the dirt spec is a likea nitro sport to a nitro ruslter, its more then just bearings.
but i have a feeling that the dirt spec tires will start to be the tire of choice, and that very soon they will outnumber normal rubber ones, which brings me to my next point,
remeber back in the early 80's when tamiya made cars to scale with alum and everything. well aperantly we are still outgrowing it, for we now realize that this compound is much more effective for our scale. which will make rc's much less to scale, and nothing like real cars.
