being fairly new to electric, i spent a lot of time reading this board about speed and motors. the comments are the same-it comes down to gearing (assuming your motor is well maintained). but, associated strongly recommends that you don't alter the motor pinion gear by 1 tooth either way, so i don't see a lot of options. i have a orion revolution 9turn using the associated recomended 19 tooth. i have 20,23, and 24 tooth in my arsenal. if i want more speed, can i go up to a 24 safely? i know it will decrease run time, to watch the heat of the motor, etc but will 24 blow it?

You should be OK. The best way I have found to test these setups is to do just that, test them. Put your new pinion on there and do 1-2 streaks 50-100 ft each, stop the car, turn off the ESC, and if you have a temp guage, check the temps of the motor and ESC. If you dont have one, the motor should not be so hot it is a)smoking or b)too hot to touch for 1 second. The ESC is going to be your main focus here I would think because when you overgear your car, it puts a tremendous amount of stress on the motor and especially the ESC which is trying to keep up with the increased demand of you motor when you gear up. You want to make sure that the ESC is not HOT to the touch on the heatsink fins. Warm is OK as long as you're not burning pack after pack like that. As long as the ESC stays cool, do a couple more runs and repeat the process. do this for an entire pack or until one of the components gets overheated (or even starts to) but if the motor or escpecially the ESC gets overheated, quit immediately and go down a tooth and try it again. hope this helps.

I would not jump that far in teeth.
I would only recommend going up one tooth at a time, looking for vehicle to incease it's speed for a certain distance. Look for car to be quickly accelerating and getting up to speed before the end of the covered distance. When vehicle seems to hesitate or be building a burst of speed right near the end of the distance - motor may also start to get warmer that will be the area that motor is overgeared and I would go back down one tooth.
Having someone time you would be the easiest method, the lowest elasped time for the distance should be your ideal gearing. Having a second pair of eyes may help too, to sees things you don't.

Use the 20 but I would definately start with a 19 like the manual recommends and see how the motor is. I would not jump straght to the 24 because you are almost certain of cooking your motor.

went to 24 from 19 tooth and motor and esc stayed nice and cool after some hard bashing. now it is cool here today in florida (75- ok you northerners get off my butt about 75 being cool), but picked up 7 mph and now at 50mph without the body. that is absolutely fast enough. had people stairing in disbelief how fast it was at the park. here's a good one- one guy says- so where do i get one of those- radio shack? yeh, $39 bucks............

Ha Ha!.....I love it when people think an R.C. Car like ours cost about $50.00.
I explain all the parts to them and they say I`m crazy to spent that amount of money on a Toy.
Good point Guys. I was thinking of changing the Pinion and Spur Gears on my TT-01 to get more speed.
-But I think getting a Faster Motor will be easier.

3300 matched 6 cell and a lrp pro a.i. esc. the spur is the stock 72 tooth and the motor pinion is 23 tooth. it was going from the recommended 19 tooth to the 23 that got me the speed. i just watch the esc and motor temp. one thing i found was that using the large snap on heat sink on the motor actually heats the motor more- the top is cool underneath the heatsink but it causes the bottom of the motor to heat up. it also covers over the vent holes in the motor. when i took it off and ran it pretty hard, it was much cooler without the heatsink.
