i have a xxt'cr' with an x-star motor, unfortunately my motor did not come with bullet conectors. i do not want to hard wire my motor, so i came up with a couple of alternatives, but i am not sure that they will work. and me being a newbie, i thought that i would ask for advice. my first thought was to get an after market batery conector and solder that onto my motor and esc, but i do not know what size wire to use and if the conectors can handle that load. my other thought was to buy some bullet conectors from an electronic supply catalog, my problem, they only accept up to 14 gage wire. any help or other ideas would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Your best bet is to use low resistance connectors such as Deans Ultra Plugs or Sermos style connectors. 14 guage wire is great for fun or club stock racing but 12 guage is what I would recommend for top performance.

I've used Deans 4 pin connectors for batteries and for between motor to ESC. They are cheap compared to the Deans Ultra plug, and they are both the same small size. I might recommend the Deans (ultra or 4 pin) over bullet connectors from the electric store. I can't say that bullet connectors won't work, but the bullet connectors look too much like Tamiya connectors to me. And Tamiya connectors tend to heat up (heat=resistance=power loss) and some times even fuse together.

I like to have the connector too between the ESC and motor. That way you can easily replace motors, and ESCs if you have to. I used to take my motors off all the time to clean them. Much easier with the connectors. I haven't done a direct comparison between connector vs hardwire, but I don't think you will see a noticable drop in performance by using the connectors between the motor and esc, so go for it.
