View Full Version : "The Flash"

Faskolor Candy Red (main body color) all other colors are Createx. I screwed up spraying the Candy Red, it needed another 3-4 coats and is way too pink/purple. :( The owner of the body wanted the Candy Red, so this was a mandatory color. I plan on doing another "Flash" theme using black as the main body color. The red around the Flash text gets lost in the Candy Red.
The character is actually 2 colors of red if you look close, which I used to give him some depth. I also used several flesh tones for the face. Overall I think it came out OK, but I still need a lot of practice and I am not totally happy with it. I plan on doing several Super Hero themes including another Flash, Captain America, The Thing, and The Incredible Hulk.
As usual, all hand cut, BD liquid mask, Iwata HP-CS brush. The trim still needs to be sanded with the Dremel.:

Thanks for the compliment! ;) It's done by hand and airbrush. Here's a pic of my sketch:

You didn't sound critical, I really did take it as a compliement!
Yes, I am in the US (New Hampshire). This is only my 4th body /airbrush project, so to be honest, I don't feel comfortable doing bodies for $$ yet (assuming that is what you meant). I actually did this one and the 3 others I have done, for local guys for free. They take a chance on me and I get to practice. ;)

do you use paint pens as well?

Yeah, I'm REALLY not happy with the Candy Red. No, i didn't use a paint pen (although I did consider it). The black lines of the "Flash" are done with a paint brush and createx paint, and the rest I did with the airbrush.
I picked up several paint pens a few weeks ago and I actually discovered that I had more control with the paint brush then I did with paint pens. Go figure.

So the character is all brushed on right? I was trying to think of how you would use the liquid mask in there and, it just wouldnt make sense. The lettering and such is done in the liquid mask right? You do outstanding work! I can see you selling body within the next year for certain.

Wow, thanks for all the compliments!
Wheelnut - I used liquid mask over the side emblems, the text, and the character. I did the background 1st, then the text, then the character and side emblems. Within the character I tried to follow the rule of "dark colors 1st" and did the black (with a bristle brush) 1st, but I left mask over the yellow, white, and skin tone areas. I did spray both of the reds in his suit with my airbrush. After that was done, I sprayed the yellow. I then filled in the white and flesh by hand with a bristle brush.
Overall, I probably have about 12 hours into the body. Most of this is layout time and the time spent painting the black outlines of the character (and the fact that I am still new at this).
I would like to eventually sell bodies on Ebay and take requests from people, but just as a "hobby" as a way to cover my costs. I really just enjoy creating them but I don't see how I could actually "make money" at it (say 10 hours per body, + materials and painted bodies go for $45-$75  ). I think I’ll stick with my day job for income! ;) But if I could cover my costs by selling them, hey that would be cool! Than I have a free hobby that I enjoy!

Phil, that is absolutely awesome!! I'm glad to see another painter is not afraid to pick up a bristle bush now and again. Incredible work!!! That job is just flawless! I can only echo TRW, that's one of the best bodies I've seen all year!
And to think, you were asking us for assistance. ;)
