Does anyone know to what voltage you are to discharge a Nicd cell. Does anyone know of any good discharges. I've seen the Gecko 6-7 cell one in towerhobbies for only 6.99. Is this a good one and does anyone have it?

5.4 volts should be the cut-off for a 6 cell nicd pack.. and 6 volts even for a 6 cell nimh....
as i have been looking at dischargers, i have seen many different types. basically though, for nicd's, you want one that quickly discharges your pack, not one that takes 6 hours..... when the pack is discharged quickly, it helps train the cells to dump all their power like they should.... so this is why i have mainly been looking at the light bulb dischargers....
i have seen the discharger you are talking about in the tower catalog, but you would need to call and ask them how long it takes to discharge a pack..... if it takes hours then i dont think i would buy it...

i have that gecko discharger...i stopped using it after the first week and went back to a 380 motor...for me the 380 works faster and the packs tend to last a little longer
got an old motor hangin around? i'd use it
I use the Deans light bulb discharger and also use the Black Box 2 cutoff unit. They work very well together. i run a P2K stock motor and get 14 mins off a match 1700 pack... I charge them at 4 amps then discharge them at 20 amps which is the load that the lightbulb system does. The Black Box 2 cuts off the pack at 5.4 volts which is porven to be safe. Ive tryed the geko thing and it took 1.5 days to discharge a pack :[
Buy the Deans stuff and youll be happy. Remember to train your packs once in a while.

Hey One Sweet Rustler....
how long does it takes to finish dischargeing a pack with an old motor?? i guess when you hook up your battery packs to it that it just makes that old motor go wide open till the battery dumps??? and it doesnt have to be just a 380, it could be just any size engine?? and how long do you wait till you unplug your pack from the motor??? do you hook up a multimeter to the battery leads to check to see what the voltage is??

If your using a stick pack, I've recommend an Integy Reactor 20 (now there is the 30 model) and I use the Gekko for storing them.
