View Full Version : Why doesn't 1/10 cars have Center Diffs?

I've been wondering about this for a while.... why doesn't 1/10 cars have center diffs? I know the old Super 10 series from kyosho had one but I don't see any touring cars of these days having one. Why...? Shouldn't 1/10 cars have them as well if they're necessary for 1/8's?

I dunno about necessary... I've spooled every center diff I've come across. I'm not sure why 8th scales have em either.

I believe it has go to do with the thing that 1/8 buggies has much higher CG compared to 1/10 onroads, it would be a no brainer to do a wheelie in high HP low mass 1/8 buggy, but it will decreas acceleration, and make turning radius horrible, center diff allows driver to use maximum power without having to worry about losing to much of turning. Hope it makes some sens.

Center diff in buggies allows you to set brake bias towards front or rear. It also helps put the power down somewhat smoothly in loose conditions.

it also save the drivetrain on one-wheeled landings.

well theoretically , all 4wd cars should have centre diffs .... ever try locking the diff on a 1:1 off road vehicle and driving onroad/tarmac !! not advisable !
due to the scale of 1/10 vehicles centre diffs aren't as critical though it does strain the drivetrain as it is full 4wd all the time. belties have a bit of slip , shafties though have to take the strain - but i haven't noticed any significant increase in wear. the outdrives probably wear out a bit faster though ! plus the increased weight and complexity on a 1/10 tourer is just not worth it.
btw its don't not doesn't have centre diff ! sorry , don't mean to be nitpicky - it just hurts the eyes/ears ! :)
