View Full Version : Good Motor for Rustler?

I'm wanting a faster motor for my new Rustler. I've read the factory ESC supports motors down to 17 turns.
What are some good options for fast motors in that range? Is the Reedy Flash Point 17T a good motor? Is it better than a 19T Quad Spec motor?
Any Trinity options or others?
Thanks,
Dave

A really good motor for a Rustler is the Trinity Chamelon 2. It works great. Another one is the P2K2 for Trinity

Chameleon 2 and Reedy Quad mag are awesome 19t motors. The flash point is decent too, but you would get less run time, and only a little more noticable power than a 19t. Also, you would risk frying the esc with a 17t morot. It's never a good idea to try and go right down the the motor limit.

i think you can go down to the limit on esc or atleast most of them but not this one I would just get a good 19t motor.
Reedy Quad Mag will have the most torque of the 19 turn motors suggested so far. Its magnets also are better. I would go with that or the Orion element since they use better magnets.

Why would you risk frying the ESC with a 17T? It's rated for motors down to 17T.

the ESC is rated down to a 17t, and with some ESC I have ran under the turn limit. However with the XL-1 I would not run anything under a 19t because you could burn it up.

A 19 turn motor or stock motor would be good for the Rusty, seeing as how it's a heavy little truck. I personally use a stinger armature in a speed gems can. Has lots of torque, so I have to gear up.

A good 19 turn motor would be ideal in your situation. Check out the Trinity Chameleon 2 or the Reedy Quad-Mag.

Is the 19T Quad Spec, etc., nearly as fast as the 17T Flash Point? Will the Rustler do wheelies with a 19T?
Thanks again,
R.

Id say there petty close, as far as the wheelies that might be hard to do with a rustler. Im not sure never had one but my t3 dont wheelie much at all.

JonBoy- lock the slipper and tighten the diff, then use grippy tires. Instant wheelies;).
The rusty is a heavy little truck, and takes a bit more to wheelie than something like a T3/4 or XXXT. So I'd say wheelies are VERY difficult with a 19 turn motor.

does it need to be on the street to wheelie a t3? my tires just spin and never comes close to wheeling.

Depends on the tires you put on. If they're grippy street tires, it'd make sense to try in the street. If they're mashers (like mine) they work on street or grass. Pins would probably only work on grass or claylike surfaces.
