I and several others have tried it, but I'm not sure it can be done on lexan, painting from inside out...

Much easier said than done.

I just had a order request to do the very thing. I agree with Cosmo, as usual, that it would be a monumental task to do a real-fire scheme from the inside out. I think it could be done, but you woul have to do something like tape a picture of the flame to the outside of the body and then do a paint-by-number type thing- trying to match your paint to the flames already there.
...just a thought

I have tried the real fire on lexan too, and it's not as easy as just do it in reverse. When you paint on the outside you do the black tuch-up last, it's hard to tuch-up first. I've been laying down the black first, then my color. It doesn't look as good as I would like, but it looks OK, I guess. It will take some practice.

THat looks incredible ad. it funny i was thinking the other day how hard can it really be, but I know to take the advice of all of you guys here, maybe I will have to go try to practice on some soda bottles. I would be happy if I could make it look as good as you have thise laid down.

Another thing that may make it easier/ look better would be to use iridescent colors because the pearl additive in the paint will actually pop when backed with black or white. It's not as brilliant as it is when backed w/ white, but it doesn't completely dull like when you back semi-transparent paint.

I don't know, but would you guys consider this close to looking like real flames? (obviously in the wrong colour) It is one of the bodies from our local concours competition

Truly amazing!
I like your 1st one better though, it seems to have more fuzzy edges on the flames that make them look realistic where the 2nd one has harder edges.
Of course, I wish I could do either! ;)

Thanks, It's good to know you like the first one. I like the 2nd one better, but I'm still trying to find the right mix of stenciling and free hand airbrushing.

Adrc, you have by far the most realistic looking flames on an rc car body. Absolutely phenomenal! I'm looking forward to the day (in the not so distant future) when you post a body with flames that people accuse you of gluing a picture inside. If your work doesn't inspire people to improve upon their flame painting skills, nothing will. Outstanding once again!

Best that I have seen on lexan. What air brush and paint are you using on it?

Looking good ad!
I'm going to attempt the "true fire" on lexan for the first time in the next couple weeks. I hope it turns out half as nice as yours do!
Good work!

Here's my first shot at this. This body was actually a test platform for another order I have. I wanted to test everything out and see how it looked. I took it to the track for some criticism and everybody drooled over it :D The red is Createx transparent red backed with chrome. The color is super deep!
