Whats a good way to keep my motor cool i a race?

The speed control plays a part as does the number of <a href ="http://integy.com/cgi-bin/webc.cgi/st_prod.html?p_prodid=1464&sid=711j7uC">capacitors</a> you use. You'll also want to have as much cooling surface area as you can. Motor <a href="http://integy.com/cgi-bin/webc.cgi/st_prod.html?p_prodid=377&sid=711j7uC">heat sinks</a> are good for this and make sure there is adequate air flow. Lastly, you'll want to gear the car correctly. If the ratio is too low the motor will over-heat and if it's too high the same but not to the extent of the former.

Keep in mind that motors heat up because they are only ~ 68% efficient. If they were 100% efficient all of that energy would go into movement. They say that brushless motors are 80% efficient so you can imagine the gains.

The new brushless motors arent that great...my friend tested it out he said he could barely notice a difference. that is...with the same amount of turns for both motors he used...Novak Brushless and orion.

Did your friend generate any numbers so we can analyze the differences? I would like to know what the run time, RPM and horse power are for the brushless. I would hope that if Novak has him testing, he is generating feedback for them. Also, does the motor, he is testing, have permanent magnets?
