Hello,
I was just wondering about something. I was sitting theother day and I thought HEY why not build myself a R/C Boat. So I drew up someblueprints and it looks ok to me but im not sure that I have everything I need. Just to tell you Im not doing it to save money its to have fun.
My bluprint: i have a boat drawn on it at the back I have an engine, propeller attached to engine, fuel tank, rudder and 2 servos. But im not exacly sure hot to hook up the servo to the rudder! How do I do that???
Materials: what I think I need are(tools): plywood, nails, hammer, silicone, screwes. here is what I thik I need for the electronics and things: engine, 2 servos, propeller, fueltank!
CONNECTIONS:Im thinking of puttong engine at back and servo on one of my cross boards that one i for the gas. Just above the engine I got a fuel tank that goes in the engine (Im letting gravity do its job) but I wil have a switch on the line. And last I have a steel rod going to the prop ant the back.
PARTS: I have alredy chosen what and were I wil get the things from.
ENGINE: Junkyard or Old R/C BOAT
REMOTE+2SERVOS+RECIVR: Come in one package for 79.00 US.
PROPELLER: Brand new

What I want to know do I need anything else to make it all go? What is the right way to hook the things up? And how to attach my servo to the rudder so it will steer both ways?????????

THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME HOPE YOU ANSWERED ME BACK!!!!!!!!

I have seen many diffrent ways that a rudder is steered, they all go from string to highly specialized systems, to dual servos.
Is this going to be an outboard or inboard layout?
If you are not that mechanically inclined, you can be creative and use one high torque servo to give it its direction. This would work good if you had an outboard, just put the servo in the middle and fiddle from there.

In board is about the same, just play with it and keep us posted on how it comes along. http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/cool.gif

Yep its going to be a inboared layout. And Im prety mechanicly enclined. But you still really didnt answer my questions. What I want to know do I need anything else to make it all go? What is the right way to hook the things up? Do my connections and things sound right and am I missing anything? http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/confused.gif

You'll need batteries for the radio equipment.

Yes. I alredy know that I need some batteries and fuel. And with home build things its obvious that a cuple extra things are gonna need to be bought! lol

it is kind of hard to tell you everything you will need, what are you going to make the hull out of?? if you are going to use the wood, you might want to get some epoxy and coat the inside and out of the wood to protect it. for the rudder, have the rudder with a long arm. make a pivot point in the back of the hulland connect the rudder arm to it, then run the rudder arm inside the hull to a steering servo.

as far as other materials , it is kind of hard to see what else you might need. sounds like one of those projects where you will kind of figure things out along the way!!! keep us updated

I don't think anyone can give you the answers you seek. Quite simply because you are building YOUR design, with YOUR hands. We don't know exactly what you have planned, so, how can we give you perfect answers? It's like me building a street rod, and expecting it to be A B C and D. Get what you can now, take logical steps, and build it per your instructions. That's the only advice I can give.

lots of boats use clevieses and wire to attach to the engine and thortole.
