What do you think makes it better than the TC3? I know the improvements that Associated made, but what do you notice different on the track? I'm getting ready to get a new TC for next season, and I'm pretty familiar with the TC3, so I was considering the TC4...

Well for starter the steering is super smooth and sharper, I was able to increase the steering buy 10 % in each direcion ( MX-3 radio). Also the drive train spins smoother. Not to mention that the TC4's drivetrain spins smoother and is quiter. Last and most important the car is easier to work on and is just better in my opinion.

I would get one but I havent seen one race yet so I really dont know how well they really do.

What is easier to work on? The TC3 was pretty easy to work on. And, the TC3 drivetrain is pretty smooth as well (when you remove the seals/grease from the bearings, that is).

The TC4 is much easier to work on and is faster out of the box than a TC3.

You already said that. What makes it so much faster and easier to work on?? How is replacing like A-arms? Because right now its between the 4 Tec, Sprint or the TC4 (RTR soon I hope) .

It is hard to exlplain, look at the manual to see what I am talking about http://download.teamassociated.com/pdf/manuals/tc4_manual.pdf

I'm familiar with the car. It's basically a TC3 with a few refinements. I'm just wondering if it's worth getting rid of my TC3 for a TC4. What is easier to work on? What breakage problems have you had?

Between those 3 cars, buy the TC4. There is no question about it.
As far as the difference between the TC3 and TC4 - I would wait for awhile. Associated will probably make a few running changes. There are some problems with the TC4 that will be sorted out soon.
The rear hinge-pin brace seems to be the most-broken part. The drivetrain is smoother than the TC3, but still not as smooth as the Pro4 in my opinion. About wrenching on the car - the ball studs can be screwed in with an hex driver, instead of using a nut driver to screw them in. This is great! What this translates to is when you drill holes in the top of the ball cups, you can easily unscrew the ball studs to remove washers (for changing roll-center), change positions, etc. without having to pop the ball cups on and off. Other than that, maintenance is about the same for the TC3 and TC4. I like the motor mount better on the TC4, as well as the new front bumper and steering rack.

Thats awesome, I loved that when I saw it on my MST-1. IMO, that is one of the great innovations in these past few years. Gizmo, does AE make aluminum HP braces yet?

i just got my TC4 yesterday and my drivetrain doesn't seem that smooth and is kinda noisy? I have it all greased up and everything but it still seems like it has some resistance? (Although, it might just be me, because this is my first four wheeler and first touring car) and, how tight should the diffs. be? i followed the manual's instructions, but they seem really tight?

I have heard mixed reviews about the tc4. First off, I have heard that there is a lot of slop in the car to begin with. Also, I have heard that a few of the kits have come with defective parts out of the factory. As for racing, many have complained that the chassis is way to flexible, and therefore not good for carpet racing. Some of the people with tc4's even wanted to go back to the tc4. On the plus side, the tc4 does have a smoother drivetrain, easier to work on, and the design of the car is better.

To test the diff, hold the spur gear, and one of the two tires(front or back). Then turn the other tire, it shouldn't be too hard to turn, but yet shouldnt be anywhere close to being easy to turn.

Use motor shims to shim up the suspension. Mine had a lot of slop in it. Ugh.

Not sure about anybody elses TC4 but mine is super rugged (stiff) quiet almost as quiet as my friends XRAY and is the best Touring I have driven. The only recommendation I have is the same one I have for the TC3 soak the a arms is boiling water for 2 minutes no less and no more.

You will not be dissapointed. :)
So it has flexing issues on carpet? I wonder if that will be corrected with the release of a graphite chassis.
Is there any torque steer issues?

My TC4 does not flex, at all.

does anyone elses driveshaft like vibrate a lot when your running it? mine seems offset just a little, so when it gets going it throws the shaft off balance and it vibrates the whole car a lot? any suggestions? and also, is there any way to reduce noise from the car, mine seems to be awefully noisey when i'm running it.

What I noticed on mine during motor breakin was the front end shimmied alot. I cranked down a little more on the Servo Saver and tighened up the rest of the steering screws then it went away. Tomorrow will be the first time I will get to run it at the track.

RH Customs,
Please stop giving false, inaccurate info about this car. Obviously you like the car, not my problem. The car DOES flex, and it does clearly push more so than other cars; even the fully decked out rides the factory guys have. Please explain to me how not one factory guy acctually likes running the TC4 opposed to the TC3. Stormperson clearly outlined all of the reasons why, and you are simply being ignorant, and choose to ignore it. Dude just listen to reason....

So how did you fix the push in your TC4?
gizmoguy303
12-27-2004, 01:12 PM
My TC4 doesn't push at all - as a matter of fact, it had too much steering with the stock setup. I put stiffer springs in the front, changed the roll-center, and put thicker oil all around to make the steering feel more neutral. With the stock setup, the front end was diving and "hooking" pretty bad on our track. However, I run on a very high-bite track.

Yep, I ran my box stock TC4 this past Sunday on a brand new oval... I qualified 4 laps ahead of 2nd place w/ rubber. I cant believe it. But I do have to say, it did push steering into the turn. While exiting and getting back on the throttle, it hooked up awesome. Gizmo, I raised my front roll center and it helped a ton! Is that what you did. Oh yeah, my carbon kit came in today... I cant wait to rebuild my whole car!!!
Gizmo, as a matter of fact, can you send me your setup? I havent seen any other setups, I want to see if mine is alike any others. Are you running on ozite carpet? tiddkid16@yahoo.com is my email.
Thanks

Congrats!! I run on an indoor concrete track. It's sprayed with VHT (track prep compound) and is extremely tacky. It's easy to traction roll if your car isn't set up properly.
My setup will probably be a lot different than yours since you are running on an oval. I'm running gold in front, blue in rear with 50wt all around. Stock droop settings (6 and 4). I'm running one washer under each of the inside ball studs. Front stud is on second hole from inside. Rear stud is on inside hole. Outer Ackerman holes. Upper shock mounting position is 3rd hole out on towers (front and rear). Rear lower shock mount is outer hole. Take Off 22's.
This is what I've come up with after 2 weekends of racing. I'll be doing a lot of tuning and experimenting for a while. I plan on trying 60wt all around, red springs all around or red front/blue rear, try inside Ackerman hole, and screw around with the roll centers a bit.
What's your setup? :D

Box stock, except...
blue springs all around
55wt all around
-1.5* camber all around
-Droop is 5 and 5
Thats 4 packs on the car. I went from an 11.4 avg lap to a 10.6 avg.

I thought you said you changed your roll center? What washers you are running under the studs?
Lapster
12-28-2004, 03:16 AM
Sorry, I forgot, im running one .02" shim under each ball stud on the front tower.
It seemed weird when I was at the track, usually to get rid of push you have to lower the front roll center. I did that, it got worse, I then raised it and it was almost all gone. I'll keep tinkering w/ it.
Oh yeah, putting a carbon kit on a car after you have it built sucks major donkey marbles.

I thought you were looking forward to rebuilding your whole entire car? :p
Forgive me for my noobness. Does taking out washers on the inner stud lower the RC, or raise it?

Taking out washers raises it, putting more in lowers it. My hands are fried, ive build almost 2 cars now!

Thanks. I usually think in terms of washers or the angle of the turnbuckle than in terms of roll center. I'm a noob. :p

I got my car for Christmas. After being out of the hobby for a while, I recently started racing TC again. I pulled out my original RS4 and went racing. Didn't do too bad considering. I am really looking forward to getting the new TC4 on the track. I am planning on racing on carpet for the first time with it. Hope it does well. I still have lots to learn about the car. My car seemed to go together very well. It also came with some instructions on modifying the braces for easier diff removal, they also changed the ball stud placement and added washers under them as well.
