I don't understand this - I see all these nice looking bodies posted, with fancy paint schemes (flames, etc.). They look great, but I don't understand how people can paint that meticulously on the INSIDE of these bodies.
How can you paint these intricate details in the cramped interior of these small spaces, with the concave curves involved?
Thanks for any help,
R.

a good masking job is the key to the art work

I actually masked my body by hand with a very small tape from the LHS that allows me to bend it around curves and change directions fairly easy. After I had both sides of the body matching on the outside I then turned the vehicle over and began tracing the outline with the same small masking tape. There was one spot on the inside of the body I couldn't get as accurate as the taping on the inside and that was because of a 90 degree area I just couldn't get my hands into and the tape pressed down well enough. So I just moved my tape to an area I could get it to.
There are also a ton of pre-made masks for flames and such in the hobbie stores and on line that work like the window film. Put them on making sure all the edges are down well. Spray with one color and then pull them off and spray with another. It is so much fun. I really like painting and I've never done it before. I want an airbrush for my birthday now.

Liquid masking is the key to painting an intricate scheme. Since you dont have to bend it around curves and that junk, you just spray it on the inside of the body, and cut you design out with your xacto blade. Bob diveleys is teh best stuff.

Bob Dively is by far the best liquid mask I have used, and there are a couple of places on line you can find it by the quart for like 16.00 plus shipping. That much LM will last for a long time.
I still use tape in some cases, mostly for racing stripes or for the simpler two color schemes I do from time to time.
the other thing I have found is that alot of the details that seem to be so hard are actually painting techniques that can be very simple with just excellent results making it appear more difficult than the are.
