nicd or ni-mh, which one has better runtime if they both were 3000 mah.

Go with ni-mh.

I don't think they make 3000 Nicads highest I have seen is 2400. Your better off for NIMH for longer runtimes just make sure your charger handles NIMH though.

I know rocknbil is going to say that nicads provide more punch, which they do. If you need runtime, go for 3000 or gp 3300 packs. If you want punch get 2400's.

Just don't forget that GP3300's have plenty of punch too. :)

The 2400 and 3000 NiMh had about the same voltage output Panasonics had higher Internal Resistance. Compared that to a GP3300 which has higher voltage, lower internal resistance plus cell is more durable (like a Nicad) for added runtime. Compared that to the new sanyo 3600 Nimh which has about 30-40 seconds of added runtime but lower voltage and higher internal resistance compare to the GP3300.
For rc racing the GP3300 is still the ideal cell for all around use, the 3600 Sanyo didn't measure up to the hype very delicate and after 10 cycles average runtime is no better than a very good GP3300 some of which are coming out with 435 runtime, 1.179 voltage some rare 1.185 and IR average 22-23 rare 19 to 21 numbers. Best packs of GP3300 I got from SMC 1. was 435, 1.179, 21,22 IR, the other 438, 1.182, 22 IR (30amp matched). Bought two packs of Sanyo 3600 (were suppose to be Team cells) runtime 442 at 1.15 volts, 28 IR. With 2400s I was starting to get some 360+ runtime, 1.16 voltage and 25-26 IR.

If your all out racing the GP3300 is the way to go. The 2400 Sanyo is the largest sub C nicad out there. The CP2400 version will last 500 cycles, that's the best advantage of it. GP3300's will lose some capacity after about 25 runs or so. Most car racers don't care about life cycle, they just toss them away and buy more. So, your goals will help you decide which cell to choose.
There are other 3300 NIMH cells out there as well. We have one that sells for $2.95 and it has almost as much voltage as GP3300 cells.

This graph is kinda old, they are slightly better now.
thanks
