Hi all

I've played with RC Helis for a few years but am just getting into RC Boats as I have a lake nearby.

I'm looking to buy an RTR gas engine boat which I will use to learn the necessary skills and want to race with at some point. Rather than buy say a Traxxas and then have to sell it for c in the $ when I want to upgrade, I have saved the $$ to buy a decent boat from the start. I'm thinking of the BH Hanson racing cat (around $2000) but what other suggestions do you have for a high end RTR gas boat>

Thanks for any advice - can you include a web link to a supplier of any boats you recommend as it's been hard to track down any decent info or decent web sites on this subject.

you're outta my league if you're talking about starting with a 2k rig & racing engine.

Have look at Jims. They'll fit your bill better than any site.

JIms RC Boat Dock (http://p086.ezboard.com/bjimsrcboatdock)

Enjoy.

Me. 2K rig? ..... I wish. :D

Steve & friends. Hope I didn't bother any of you by the quick referral to Jims. Not many serrious gassers here besides Mike T & one or two others. Would be nice if they'd show face & become a little more active.

Btw Doc,
Now that the Cali Drag is sold, I've got a PSR carbon Wave Fighter on order. (very similar to the AC Lazer 45). Hope to take delivery around the first of the year.

Speaking of those. Steve, if you're interested in some hot new European hulls, drop me a line.

LOL guys - if you have ever played with Helis then you will know that boats are quite cheap (relatively). Anyway I don't drink or smoke so this is my vice :)

I've sent an email to Aeromarine re their Donzi 49 - if they can ship before the holidays I might get that - I'd like the Hanson Cat but it's a 2 week build and I really don't wanna wait - you know what it's like.

DoubleDog - I might get some more info from you after the holidays re those Euro hulls - I guess that I might have a go at building one when I've learned some more about RC boats and have had a chance to play at the lake.

Thanks again

Watch out for Bruce. His boats may be good but he hypes them too much, he has the gift of Bull****.
It isn't hard to put 2 G's into a boat, I'm building a Sport 40 and have well over $1,200 and counting into that.
I agree with CF, Jim's site has some really nice used boats for sale on there. They sometimes have some new boats RTR in there also.
What type of hull are you looking for?

I'm not really stuck on either a mono or a cat so either will do as long as it has 50+ performance and around 48"

I just wish I could find a company that answers emails quickly, has a RTR boat in stock with radio and can ship quickly! Holy grail or what!!

I'm gonna search through Jims site and see what I can find today.

Bruce's boat comes in at $2450 all in (bit more than I expected) and he claims high 60's out of the box with the 7.5hp motor - just wish he could build them faster.

Two weeks wait for a complete RTR boat isn't bad. I've waited 6 and 8 weeks to get just hulls!

You really want to wait to get on the water, try scratchbuilding. Depending on hull type and materials used, you could be into the next year before you see the water.

www.mhzusa.com has some good boats. A little overpriced, but fast (in most cases). www.aeromarinerc.com also has some very good boats.

I see him over at Jims now. There has been some sweet deals tossed around.

Steve it seems that your somewhat like myself. When its comes to my hobby/vice's cost has no bearing. If I want it I get it!! (But I do drink!!! :D ) I have been flying model R/C since I was 14 & I'm now in my upper 30's  If you don't have funds to spend then it can make it very hard.

I will say that boats are different in some ways, But boats can last, compaired to planes & heli's. (crash one & move to another) Boats can usually be repaired after a mishap. I know guys that still are running the same boats that are many years old & run just about weekly.

So welcome to boats, you'll like it since you already know about the rush you can get! There are boats for fun & boats for racing & some boats for just jaw dropping.

Has anyone heard back from them?

CFRACR - Thanks, yes that was the problem with Helis - v expensive to buy and the slightest mishap meant a new set of CF blades at over $100 a set and a heavy impact meant $400 a a weekend rebuilding and balancing!!

Hopefully boats might be a little cheaper when I mess up.

I've got a whole bunch of offers to consider - I'm researching them to try and filter out the really old hulls and to see which has the best engine. Unfortunately the web sites of most of the companies are a load of rubbish - these guys all need professional web design (that's what I do by the way) so trying to find the info is like wading thru treacle.

Hopefully I can make a decision today and get one shipped ready for the holidays.

Steve

PS Jims seems to be a great place too - pity the board can be a little slow at times.

That all depends on what kind of boat. A big enough crash with a big gas boat could set you back 200-400 dollars or more.

Steve, I see where you bought one from Armand. He's done many good deals & am sure he'll do the same with you.

(in a whisper) .... what did you end up getting? ;)

(not sure what the engine mods are until I get it)

If I have money left after the holidays then I am really interested in his twin gas engined Cat!! That should be some real fun.
