I have a book, dated 1954, titled "Radio Control Handbook" and it describes some very early types of control devices. Not really servos as you know them today. But similar in throry. I would have to say servos, or control mechanisms used in models under the banner of "radio control" would then be dated around the early 1950's as the first examples.
