Um, seince you a newbie, stick packs would be the way to go. Look at the maxx paxx and the zip paxx. They are 2 batteries for extremely cheap.

the best brand of cells (at least that work for me) are Sanyo. some good stick packs are some 1500's or 1700's. they aren't as cheap as the Maxx Paxx but they have good memory. Batteries have a memory of how they are ran. if you charge it about 70% and run it down to about 20% the battery gets used to that and has bad run time. now if u charge it fully and your charger can peak charge thats great because a peak charge charges the battery to its fullest (or peak). now when you run your stampede... run it until the battery doesn't even have enough power to propel it. and then lift the truck of the ground most likely when you hit the gas the wheels will turn for around a minute, and that will wear the battery right down. now usually the battery is fairly hot after running it. so stick a fan on it and give it about 10-20 minutes to cool or longer if needed. also, if your battery isn't doone charging and it is getting hot, unplug it immediately. if you let it charge and it is hot it can fry the cells. good luck and hope this helps. also, for maximum discharge look into a discharger. i know Trinity and Dynamite make some nice ones.

If you can afford them, I'd recommend getting a couple of 2400mah stick packs, those should give you quite a bit more run time without needing any special charger or breaking the bank..... :)
