View Full Version : Can anybody guess what this car is?
I just finished up a makeover on my RC, and it looks like a completely new car. Anybody care to guess what's hiding under the Lexan?

I'll post the "before" pics when I track them down on my hard drive.

It's a GT or a Kyosho Ultima.

It is a RC10GT. You can see the blue chassis

It's either an RC10GT or an HPI Nitro Rush.

hmm rc10gt I would say. the blue chassis IS visible through the wheel well.... all I have to say is...interesting... I would like to know where the inspiration for such a trucar came from.

EDIT: It looks like the roof or I should say the convertable top on this car..It looks as if it is clear.. did you do that so it would appear as if the top was down but still protect the heatsink from getting scratched?

Well that didn't take long... It's an RC10GT sitting under an HPI Honda S2000 190mm touring-car body.
And John, the roof was left clear to make it "look" like a convertible, though the illusion isn't terribly convincing. The reason I didn't cut it out was to protect the heatsink and prevent other damage during a rollover (which happens quite often to this truck). The rear window is cut out to allow airflow, though I don't know if that will be enough yet since I haven't run the new body yet.
And for those of you who are curious, here's a shot of the same car taken several days earlier, after a session at an abandoned concrete-mixing plant. The fatal break came after a 4-foot air/12-foot length jump off a pile of gravel, which was actually pretty mild compared to the two hours of insane airs she'd been getting before the rear hub carrier finally blew.

Hey, great ride. Going out and just playing is so much fun isn't it ?
PLease tell me what you are using for imaging ... is it a digital camera, or are you scanning these pics ?
The second pic looks exceptionaly nice.
Please give me the full scoop.
I have a Nikon Coolpix 990. It takes really nice pics too, but yours is fanatastic looking !

And I thought it was gona be a tough question :D
Thanks for the comments on the pics, jeepinator. I just looked through your "archives" post, and man, all that stuff was great. The fan-car is just beautiful...
Anyways, these pics here were just quick-n-dirty shots I took in my livingroom with a Canon PowerShot Pro70. The first image was a window-light shot, taken in the late afternoon when there was no direct light coming through the windows.
One easy technique (which I didn't use on this shot) to improve the contrast is to use a large white reflector (anything that is about 2X the size of your car will do--even a big sheet of paper) and hold it on the other side of the car from the window. This will reflect a lot of the light back onto the car, and you would then be able to see details in the wheels/tires etc.
The second shot was just a tabletop--my coffee table, actually, with a towel thrown over the back of a chair to act as a backdrop. This was lit by a standing incandescent lamp, and some background halogens.
The lighting for that shot was actually too dark, but pretty diffuse so you're able to see a lot of detail without blowing highlights and shadow detail like in the first image.
I usually spend a couple of minutes in Photoshop with every image, to adjust color, levels, etc, but that's what I used to do for a living, and it's more than I should get into in this post. If you're curious about some easy tricks to improve your digital images in Photoshop, email me and we can chat.
And illbreakit, sorry it was so **** easy. I knew I shoulda hidden the blue chassis...

Wow! lol, looks all clean 'n' stuff!
Like how you did that, if the wheel well wasnt showing and it was a head on view, i would have never of guessed with that front bumper! Are you going to add cooling holes to it, or keep it running hot and clean?

The bumper looks like it came from a Nitro Dual Sport.
The bumper actually came wrapped in a plastic bag with an RPM label on it. I think it's made for the B3, but I'm not sure. Drill four holes through the mounting plate, and it fits the RC10 real nice!

No, it's not made for the B3. At least I've never seen it (I would have one if it was). It's definitely a on-road bumper.
If my memory serves me right, RPM still makes bumpers for the Traxxas Bandit that look like that...
