We all know last year was hot for Buddie's and Nitro Hammers and with the new year coming I want to get in on the ground floor-so what will be the hot boat for 2005. Shockwave 36/Llumar hydro/or ???

Aeromarine Mean Machine 18 by a long shot!
If you want to build a small one, .12-.18 powered, the new Wild Thing 26 from www.grimracer.com

I saw a picture of the Miss lumar! That had something that caught your eye and the price wasn't to bad. If i remember it had a .18 motor. if my memory serves me right i told this guy on here to make the Wild Thing 26" long and use a SSI on 12-2400 and a 642 prop. This 26 would be a non-racing boat but FAST FUN.

I own one of the few wood versions that Mike made and am very happy with it. Phil Thomas at R/C Marine Designs laid up the molds for the WT 26 mostly based on the wood version.
Back to where we were. The MM 18 would be my choice if I were looking for a good starter boat. It is one that could be highly upgraded as time goes on. It's based on the .21/.45 Cat hulls (same length and width) so I know that it won't be long before someone drops a .21 or .45 into it.

I notice that almost all posters are starting to run gas or nitro. My question is do you dare to bring into your home without stinking up the basement and then filters to the upstairs or are you guys all divorced? I like to live indoors in the wintertime when temp. reaches 10 below and wind chill is 35. Also people hear the noise and the bubble gum gentlemen with red light exit you with escort and where do you get the moola to buy such equipment?

Nitro doesn't stink up the house unless I get the urge to fire up a boat in the basement. My wife does gripe when I'm painting down there.
No, I wouldn't bring Gas into the house. I worked on a snowblower downstairs once and it didn't stay there for a minute or two when I started smelling fumes. Not the place to be when you have a furnace going with Gas.
My neighbors are cool about the noise, it's not as bad as the people driving down the street with their sub-woofers thumpin'. I rarely fire them up at home for any length of time.
Where do I get my moola? I have a half-way decent paying job but I work 6 or 7 days a week for extra money to pay for my toys.

i don't think the mean machien is gonna be the hot boat of the year only because of one reason: its to expensive... the nitro hammer was the leasted expensive and one of the fastest boats...

The BASS boys make the pictures and a few plates rattle and i can't wear my hearing aides which magnify the thumping. I had it one day when i drove the pickup and one of them drove up next to me at a stop sign and my windows were partial down and they really were vibrating, i closed them and they still were moving , but not as much. No respect! Painting, i light a bunch of candles and that helps a bunch. Have a good and safe Thanksgiving day. Snow missed us but KC and St. Louis and Kirksville got it.

Grimms 26 in a carbon fiber should be the one , if the price doesn't go sky high. The main problem there is the darkness color of boat would be hard to see. I have electric and painted a couple in pumpkin color and so far the easiest to pick out. Whats fun is to put a 3 amp strobe light at dust and you can see it run but that is for fun!

How's the maintenance on this boat? I read that a lot of guys complain the gas is a pain in the posterior, but they can't afford any more, so they have to stick with gas.

The MM 18 is a Nitro powered hull. There is plenty of room to work on it. The high price is justified by the quality of the components, CNC machined parts, a radio box that won't leak and a well laid up hull is what you're paying for. I would guess that Dealers will sell it for less than the advertised price. I would rather pay more for a boat that I would know is above and beyond what is currently on the market.
Mike's hull is epoxy-glas, it needs to be painted.
My 2 cents.

So far, I've given my opinion on the hot boat(s) for next season. Are there any other ones coming out that I'm not aware of yet that might be worth looking into? I try to keep on top of this stuff but are there any that I may have missed? With the Las Vegas show recently being held, the Toledo Expo and RCX Chicago coming up, there may be some others on the way.

You know everybody wants more speed which is only normal and bigger boats. There is no mention of the UFO and Sidewinder of which i have the UFO at 22" but not the Sidewinder at 26"; another is Mutineer at 22", lazer cut! I'm not affiliated with anything or body! I just have them and know what they can do, electric wise! It is nice to go fast and run on the edge but if you cannot control your boat, the fun goes out pretty fast. Food for thought; your pond for g and n had better be BIG while the smaller boats require less size of pond but at 28 or 30 mph , the pond still gets small! I would like to post 2 pictures only but don't know how?

DLM, right next to where it says "Post Quick reply" is the "Go Advanced" button. Hit that then it will take you in where you can upload pix.
Decoy, about the boats that you mentioned in the first place. the Miss Llumar will have more adjustability than the Miss Bud and I expect to see the Bud's refitted with the new pieces. The Shockwave 36 is a step in the right direction for ProBoat with fewer bugs than the rest of their line-up. A few low or no cost improvements will greatly improve it's performance, one that should be done before it first hits the water.

Ron, i know how to send pictures thru scanner but this is out of my league. This is a hp flat face screen with norton protection. We went to go advanced and pushed the button and then management and as you see things get hairy from there, sorry!

I got a new 'puter here and am still trying to figure it out. I upload shots from my digital camera and they go to parts unknown. If you can, e-mail them to me at owetpaint@aol.com and I'll see if I can post them for you.

Just wait a few years. The price on the MM18 will go down. When we bought our flat screen TV about 2 years ago it was 1200.00. Now their down to 700.00. Just wait and see.

Ejp, these aren't Plasma TV's. Aeromarine hasn't raised the prices on their boats since the models came out and rarely do their prices ever drop. The only time you'll find them slightly cheaper is through an Aeromarine Dealer so don't hold your breath.
Have you ever seen a Miss Bud new from a Dealer ever go below their street price? No, and you never will. ProBoat sets the minimum price that Dealers can sell them for. Go any lower and you won't be selling thier stuff again. Sorry, that's business.

You are right but if the manufacturer dies or if they become very popular, the price could go very high. Now i was reading on the RED forum where WOOD is fine up to a certain speed and in excess of that speed edge, they become more prone to accidents and destruction is usually total. Now with fiber-g or carbon fiber your chances improve greatly and can be repaired. Generally the boat itself isn't hurt much, but the rudder and strut and etc catch the brunt of damage. I don't race for one reason and that is i put a lot of time and money into my boats and when retired you don't want to duplicate your work all over again. If that ever happens to me, i will use my UFO and slap a very good 8 cell motor and lipo cells and run just one boat for pleasure. There is one other boat called Sidewinder and use a 700-8.4 and 12-3300 and a Octura 637 prop1 Have a good day and weekend!!

Yeah, its just that sales go on and things get cheaper to make.

MM yes it looks good for a cat but you have to ask will it have "eye appeal" to the market like the Bud did. I think NO because of the shape and graphics that to me is what the Hammer had to make it so popular along with the Bud. Now granted the real RC Boater would look at it but already owns more boats than they can drive now and as far as racing it I ask how many Cats show up. Riggers/hydro's and mono's is what I see....

Too many people get suckered in on looks alone. Look on eBay and see how many used Miss Bud's are up for auction. There are 2 main reasons for this. Some people don't know how to run one as it really isn't a beginner's boat and it needs some work done to make it more reliable on the water.
Something else that you touched on which sounded like racing. Unfortunately there is no class at the present for any these boats, especially the .15-.18 RTR boats unless a club wants to hold such a class.

Thw MM will look good if the cover is designed to look racy and the right color combo including stripe(s).
