I ordered the plans to build a wild thing. I am going to go with the .21. All I need is a rudder and stand off bracket. Where can I find one that will require no modifications?

Hey I found a rudder. It is a speedmaster and is at rocket city racing. I like the rudder but not the price. Does anyone know where I can get one cheeper. It is 49.00 at rcr.

Also is this rudder and strut worth looking into?

You got the Speedmaster part. Call Gary Preuse (don't worrk that you have to call, he is very nice and will help a lot). He has all the stuff you need and even the stuff you forgot for half the price.

This is when Ron O is supposed to step in with Gary's # :p You need a strut bushing to make up for the difference, Gary will set you up with that too ;)

OH I see how it is. You know him but don't have is Phone #. I would really like to just get the rudder but it is twice as much as the rudder and strut.

Is this really true? I need a set of Speedmaster hardware for a small boat (Dumas Lil Rascal.) I could also use a 60 size rudder assembly for another boat.

Way cool. Hey does he do this as a business?

I see that you got his number, I posted it also on the other site that you asked on.
Yes, he does this full-time out of his home.
I've got his number memorized because I call him a lot for stuff. I've got an order on the way now. If you need almost anything for a Nitro boat, he either has it or can get it quickly. He has things that other people can't get or rare items. I'd love to see his house, I'd go nuts in there!

yep, I guess I'll get the wood and the engine and then think about calling him. Why should I bother him right now :D

Since you guys posted Gary's number, I gave him a call a couple of nights ago. Very nice guy and he will really try to help you out. We got to talking about hardware, of course, and he was talking about Octura stuff. He told me that he gives a 20% discount off the retail price if you order more than 50 bucks worth of stuff :D . I don't know anywhere else where you get a dime of Octura discount  !

I also asked him about his Dumas Hawk 7.5 outrigger. He says hes got 'em. 90 bucks :D ! Once again, I've never seen 'em any cheaper than that. I'm thinking Santa is going to be delivering one to me for Christmas ;) .

I ordered my wood earlier.

I'm glad that you called Gary. Octura doesn't have a lot of profit margin for Hobby Shops so most don't even like to buy stuff from them except to keep buyers happy. Gary has known Tom Perzentka (the owner of Octura) for eons so Gary is one of the few non-storefront businesses that Octura deals with.
I've saved a ton of money by going through Gary, literally Hundreds of Dollars over time.
Ejp, when I was reading the article last night, John mentioned that the rudder was a hard part for him to get at that time. Speedmaster does have a longer bracket but if you can get access to a small piece of aluminum angle or have a school shop class you can make a bracket yourself for next to nothing. A 1/8" thick piece of angle about 1" high and 4" long would do the trick. Go to the Speedmaster site to get an idea of how it should look.

You know that Gary designed the Hawk right?? He also has a list of modifications to the kit to make it more competitive. Go with them.

Does gary sell flex shafts and all that stuff? Does he sell props, trim tabs, pipe brackets?

You need it, he probably has it in stock or can have it in a matter of days. The old dude is connected! Only a few times that I had to wait for anything and that's when I ordered 2 hulls, one was new at the time and it seemed like everybody had to have one, the other hull I was 52nd on the list for one. He has an order on hold for me right now as we are waiting for an Andy Brown pipe to show up. Everybody that has ordered one is waiting from all of the CMD dealers and Andy himself. You name it, I've gotten it from Gary, anything driveline related, engines, radio systems. His crib has to make any major hobby shop look like a newbies tool box. It ain't Tower but he does have whatever you need to throw a boat together.

Hey ron, could you tell me the layout of your boat? Where is the fuel tank? It would really help me. I am trying to figure out how big my fuel tank can be.

Ron Olson

Ahead of the engine. It's shown in the plans. Install an 8 or 10 oz. Sullivan SS tank.

Did you build or buy your boat? Will my boat have as much room as yours? (I saw yours on th boat stand thread) Where is your pressure line?

Ron Olson

I bought the hull built but had to figure out the rest of it myself. The fuel cell was already installed. You will have a lot more room to work with than I did and I seemed to have plenty.
