View Full Version : Wanna see a MINT original 6010 RC 10 ? (pics)

I bought this off of ebay. It was very expensive. It was MIB with original shrink wrap on the outside !
Well, I knew even before bidding that I wanted to actually build one. So it is worth much less now that I assembled it. I made the decision, so no harassing me about it ;)
Anyway, my very first kit was the 6030 RC10 (labeled "RC10 Graphite"), and I thought it would be cool to own the original as well.
So here it is, for all of you to enjoy:

It would be cool for Associated to release a Limited Edition RC10 Gold Chassis. They could possibly hold a vintage offroad race where they raced the "new" RC10's. Of course the new parts would have to have I.D. marks on them to separate the new parts from the old parts so cars like yours wouldn't be worthless.

Hehehehe, check this out. I decided to bust out the original box and see what I left inside. I found this !
It is the front page of a neato little "racing news" publication. I will scan some more photos that are in it. It is really really cool stuff. Look at Jammin' Jay ! WOWOWOW he looks young ;)

There are tons of cool things in this box that I had forgotten about. I hope you all don't mind me sharing

Wow jeepinator, I am envious. That is amazingly awesome. I would LOVE to have a mint 6010 on my shelf. One day maybe... Or perhaps I'll just buy a very good used one and replace faded plastic, as AE still stocks nearly every part.
Where is the ultra-cool resistor speed controller? I also loved the stock 2 wires with z-bends and wheel collars linkage from the bellcranks to the servo :D I see something weird though... shouldn't there be fiberglass washers between the shock caps and shock body?
MIB? Yikes! That must've cost a pretty penny. But, I would have assembled it too. I can't believe how white all the nylon parts are... yowza! Very, very cool. I'm currently looking to pick up a Tamiya Avante to add to my collection.
Another thing... did the 6010 kit come with the front sway bar?

Everyone, no I am NEVER going to run this thing ! ;)
I am considering outfitting it with the electronics of the day. I actually have a Futaba S32H, like they use in the manual. I don't have a uper old Futaba reciever tho ... maybe I'll find one some day.
Gokou, you have a keen eye ! I did not want to damage the nylon seal thingies, so I cheated and used O-rings (from the newer shocks). They seal better anyway. I also did not use the oil that came with the kit. I used synthetic 30 wt.
The 6010 kit did come with a sway bar. If I remember properly, my 6030 kit did too.
I am amazed at how many extra parts are left over after building this thing. There are tons and tons of screws, washers, etc. I wish modern kits would do this !
I am looking for a preofessional painter to do the body in the exact same scheme as the box. Anyone ?
Thanks everyone. Isn't this fun ?

That thing does look awesome! you should put all of the paperwork into plastic, or something. MIB, i do not even want to know how much that cost.
You should look into seeing if you can find some 'Vintage' Electronics to put in it, like a Novak T1, and one of those o-so huge recievers from Futaba, and a good ol 1200 mAh battery.
All in short, the car looks great, keep it that way

OK, more pics, as promised.
Check out Gil Losi in this pic. Hilarious !

Heh jeepinator... GOT YA! Back when I had my Tamiya Falcon (I was about 8) my neighbor had an original RC-10 like yours, and those stupid fiberglass washers ALWAYS leaked. That's why I remember them, and noticed them missing from yours :D Using the new o-rings is the way to go though, even if it isn't original. It's such a small detail only freaks like myself will notice, and you won't lose any points in my book for just wanting your shocks not to leak :)

BTW, I really do need a professional painter to paint the body. Anyone have any recommendations ? Whoever does it must submit work they have done. I doubt this body is replaceable, so there is not much room for error :p

Jeepinator,
Awesome buy I so envy you!
I have a Futaba attack, circa '86 with a FP-R2GS receiver and servos that still work great. The antenea on the transmitter is bent though. If you want it email me, I would trade it for a new 1800 or 2000 battery.

A great airbrush artist I've recently used is Jason at HeadCaseGraphics. He is so good, it's amazing. :)
Dude, I'm almost speechless. SCHWING!! That is one serious beauty. I'd pay money just to look at it, while wearing latex gloves of course. ;) Can you do me a favor and post all the detail pictures you can think of? I'd love it. I especially wanna see the tranny opened. I never got a chance to see a 6-gear AE tranny. It is truly beautiful; thanks for sharing this religious experience with us. It's truly awe-inspiring. (I tend to get mushy about stuff like this :))
I wanna know how much it cost you, though. I won't tease you, I'll call it money well spent. :D Thanks, again!

Everyone, thanks for the painting tips. Dang, now I have TOO MANY to chose from ;)
Nairb, buddy, for you I will disasemble my pristine ride and take some pics :p
While you may think that 6 gear tranny is a work of art ... ummm well, they were a total PITA to maintenance and keep running. When the stealth came out, and I built my first one, I actually believed it was devine intervention
I remember MIP was making a tranny for the old kits long before the Stealth. It was very, very nice and way out of my price range then. When the Stealth came out I was like, "oh, they threw in an MIP ...". Hehehe, they were pretty darn close. I should scan a few pics I have of my old OLD kits. Hmmm... yeah that would be fun. Should I post them in this thread or start a new one ?
Cheers

It really sucked that about two months after I got my Champ Edition RC10, the Stealth tranny came out, for about $100! Maybe I'll buy a sport B3 and stick the Stealth in my new Neon Green chassis, since it actually came pre-drilled for the Stealth...

what are the white nylon clamps on the shocks? are those collars to adjust preload? If so how well did it work???
--John
Nairb
05-25-2001, 04:42 PM
Wow, you've never seen those? My XXX & XXXT came with the same things. They're infinitely adjustable, but it can be hard to match pre-load on left & right shocks. I've decided to use some metal ones from HG instead of buying threaded shock bodies because of a few advantages they'll give me.
rc51racerx
05-26-2001, 01:13 AM
brian, never saw them, none of the cars I have had had them on them. and I really don't pay much attention to other rides to catch a fine detail like that. with a smooth shock body though it seems to me that the clap no matter how tight would only slip on the body when going over a hard jump. anyway, I suppose they work, what would be the advantages over threaded bodies?
--John
jeepinator
05-26-2001, 02:53 AM
Holy moly !
I really really don't want to be rude here, but I am amazed you have not seen this type of preload adjuster. They have been on cars since at least '84. They are proven and work well. Even the slightest tension will keep them firmly in place.
I actually have a hard time warming up to the threaded body design. It actually is harder to eyeball the symetry.
I think AE's design is best. Plastic spacer doohicky's that gaurantee equal adjustment on both sides.
I suppose I am just an old timer anymore :(
cheers

lol sorry guys didn't want you to feel old or anything. I am really fairly new to the whole scene of r/c cars, I mean I have had a few rides in the last five years but never one that had that preload setup type. if they work realy well I might have to try them out rather than buying threaded shock bodies. whoknowswho, I'm 19 so you aren't that much older ;-) I will have to try to find some of these after market for my cars and pick some up.

Hey Jeep, if you're interested in buying the "original" 4-rib front tires for your car, I found some here (http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1603909312).
jeepinator
06-04-2001, 08:40 PM
Thanks Steve, that was really thoughtful of you.
.. and I figured you guys hated me by now :p
I will probably try for those.
One question though: Why are these any more original than the ones that came in my kit ?
Or I guess, worded differently, why are they different ? Were there two revisions of the kit or something ?
SteveP
06-04-2001, 08:56 PM
The later kits came with the rounded two-rib tires. the first kits had the square four-rib version with Team Associated molded into the sidewall. They're essentially the same kit, just the tires are different.

Man im kicking myself right now. I had a chance to get a RC10 but at the time i had no clue what it was. My friends dad was giving away R/C stuff. When i got to his house he had a MRC Ironman, and now what i know is a RC10.
I liked the MRC more so i took that. I was 14 at the time now im 17 and kicking myself!
The RC10 still had the box and all the parts where there.....it looked brand new.
Jeep even tho it was made before my time that is one awesome buggie, no matter how much money you spent it was wort every Cent!
