Man I'm the solder King now. I picked up a Weller 80 Watt Iron for 20 bucks today. It works awesome, heats up fast and doesn't take more then 3 mins to do a clean solder job.

If you don't have this kind of Iron you should pick one up unless you are one of the Pro's out there with the 100 dollar Irons (which I haven't seen a 100 dollar Iron Yet). :D

Anyway what do you think, did I choose the right Iron? What kind's do you all have and why do you like it?

Cris

Hey jeep, those kind are cool for engraving your name in wood, I have one of those. I also have a 140 Watt, Weller soldering iron. It works great for small things.

Jeep thats what it looks like. It even has the light red light that comes on to let you know its on. It has a Fat tip. It sure can burn some wood too. The only Iron iv had has been 40 watts and thats it. Now I have the 80 watt I feel that I can do any solder job right and fast. As you can tell im very happy and for 20 Greens I am ever more pleased. I noticed when I first turn it on its discolored like yours Jeep and in the same places.

How much did you spend for your Iron Jeep? I got this one at a Local Atwoods in Sapalupa, peeps from Okla. should know where thats at.

Yep. this is the iron I have recommended in other threads. Good choice ! ;)
I bought mine at Fry's Electronics for about $20. Mine actually came with two tipw. The one in the pic is the big one. I have not tried the slightly snaller on, but it would be easier to use (this one is HUGE ! :p )

cheers

Yeah the tip is Huge! Mine came with the one tip but it works for me. I don't know it may be the way the tip looked when i first got it, but it looked like the already put solder on the end of the tip. It sure beats the other soldering Iron's iv seen for 70 bucks....but you can select the temp on them. I don't need all the extra's I don't need. If I had one it would stay at one temp all the time.

I also got some metal stand deal, don't know if its a stand or what but thats what I use it for. Iv been looking for a Wellar since I saw your post on a other thread so you should know I took your advice. :D I went to Sutherlands (sp?) and they had a Weller 40 watt for 23.99, im glad I didn't pick it up.
