Its a basic, but with blue shocks instead of gold. Theres no difference between the two except color. The rtr, doesnt seem that apealing. If your looking to get a rtr. ofcourse associated would be the best choice ;)
The other difference is that it include a radio system, motor, and ESC, instead of an MSC. If you dont like the included equipment, buy a team built. The team built is a RTR T3 without radio system, w/o motor, w/o esc. So, you choose what you want for the team builts. See which one you like. If you dont care what is included with the T3 RTR, go with that. Its a nice speedy little truck!

Can I ask why you want a RTR instead of the kit? Just thought I'd ask, no particular reason. I have bought both kits and RTR and the upsides and downsides seem to weigh evenly IMHO.

For some people who just want to get out with a R/C car and have fun right away RTR is the way to go. I don't think they are good for first time buyers since the first build teaches you a lot about how most all cars are built. After you have built and driven a kit and you want another car, RTR can get you by because you already know how to fix it even though you haven't built it just because of the experience from the first car.

I think the RTR is a good deal. I was thinking about getting on but ended up gettign the Team Kit. Nothing about it is the best but its a great starting point to lead to better things. Put bearings in it and a new motor and you can run with most anybody at the track. I have seen it as low at $190 that is less than the basic kit and the ESC.

Exactly Gubbs! Also some people are just too busy to build them. I've built my share of kits, believe me, but lately I just don't have time. For example, Ammoace, you know I just got that rally conversion for my TC-3, right? Well, I have been working on it when I have time for 3 nights now and still haven't finished!!! There's like 20 parts total in that kit!!! It just gets nuts sometimes around here and I have no time. I used to be able to sit down and go straight through a kit, no problem. Now I would need a month to build a kit in my spare time. Just an example, but that's my biggest reason for looking at rtr's and arr's. :D

I think I gave off the wrong impression before. I am not in anyway against RTRs. I like kits because I get a feeling of accomplishment when it is done. Plus I have been building static models for ever. I did like the almost plug and play of the T-Maxx. It was great to spend only about an hour and I was ready to start the break in. For me neither is better then the other. Time, as digex said, came be a major reason for going for RTR instead of a kit. My biggest complaint to the manufactures is that they if they are going to offer a RTR version then they should offer a Kit version also. At the very least the RTRs should include a step by step set of instructions for assembly and disassembly.
Just my thoughts, and my appoligies for giving the impression that I was against RTRs.
