I have a TC3 with standard ball diffs, 72t 48 pitch spur and running a 26 pinion. For what ever reason I just can't seem to get a good enough speed. Could it be my pinion or spur or both? Please help.

Thanks

Also make sure your comm is in good shape, bearings are clean and lubed, brushes are in good shape, and your gear mesh is set correctly. These things can reck top speed (which isn't everything mind you)

I run a TC3 with a 48 pitch 72 tooth spur and a 23 tooth pinion and i'm also running a Chameleon 2 Pro. I seem to keep up with all the other 19 turn's at my track.

I usually run a 24 tooth pinion with my Chameleon 2 Pro in my TC3. I run the stock 72 tooth spur and I run on a medium size, indoor, carpet track.

I think a 26t pinion might be too much. Try a 22t or 23t pinion with a 72t spur gear.

Viper said most of what you need to check, the gearing you said you have should be fine. I had a problems as well with two of my sedans and it turned out to be the gear mesh being to tight. How does the motor and battery feel after a race? I have dumped my pack sooner than normal when it was too tightl. Check the diffs maybe it is time for a rebuild. Check the rest of the car to make sure nothing is binding anywhere.

What is the length of your track? Try gearing the vehicle ( within reason ) to top out at the end of the longest straight.

Also, cut the comm, align the hoods, put new brushes on, and make sure you have the proper spring tension as well.

If you have someone with a dyno, you can also have them spin it up and compare it to other motors they have to see if it is performing within reason.

Another thing you can try is to zap the magnets, for some reason I had bad luck with chameleon magnets losing there strength way too soon.

When running the chameleon on a track with a 96ft straight, I usually had it geared about 26 or 27 tooth. When running a Reedy Quad Mag, I could do about 30 tooth pinion. When messing around doing touring oval ( don't ask ), I got it all the way up to a 44 tooth 48 pitch pinion. Thing looks like a spur gear :D

Changed my pinion to a 30 and mann what a world of difference more top speed and low end as well as lower temp's on my motor was around 160 to 175 ( ya I know that hot) know it runs about 100 to 130 and in my book thats perfect.

im running 100s/32p in 64 pitch...

lot comes into play when gearing, tiresize, rubber or foam, tight or wide track... what kind of batts you have, stock or mod motor... etc etc...

good starting point is ask other people racing in your class their numbers.
