About 12 1/2 years for me, I got into it in Janurary of '89 when the RC10 was THE car to have & the best battery available was Sanyo's 1200mah SCR cells..... :)

I suppose I officialy "got into RC" when I ordered my first kit, an RC10 Graphite (was brand new at the time) from Tower Hobbies with a friends credit card (I did not even have one yet !)
I was going to get the TQ10, but they announced the RC10 Graphite, so I waited like 3 weeks for them to show up at Tower (I pre-ordered mine).
I believe the year was '88 and it was spring, if I remember correctly. RC history buffs may be able to put a more accurate date on when the RC10 Graphite was released.

Before this though, I messed around with a Tamiya Frog for about 9 months. It was "loaned" to me by a friend. I spent about 8 billion dollars on hop ups for that thing ! When I was done he asked for it back ... hahah the young and foolish days :)

I guess then that means I have been in the RC scene for 13.5 years. Hmmmm ... it just hurts even thinking about all the money I have spent in those years !

Ahhh, the RC10 graphite. I hope you kept it. I would have gotten the graphite, but wanting to save my parents 15 dollars, I asked for the aluminum. That was for Christmas of '96.

I first got into R/C just as Tamiya released the Frog, and the Fox was popular. What was that, like '83 or so? I ran those awhile then got back into the hobby about 5 years ago.

I got into the hobby in April of 1999. I saved up to order a radio and battery charger, then had to wait another two months before I had enough to buy my first kit (TA03R).

Well lets see if you can guess.....my first real R/C was the Grasshopper by Tamya then a Hornet with a RS540 LOL. Then a Frog which was pretty cool till the release of the RC 10 electric. I then got into Skating which led to bicycle freestyling  and a broken arm.....10 yrs later Nitro and Ive been with it for 1 1/2 yrs now. So I guess you could say 1 1/2 yrs worth of real R/C and many childhood years of playing. :D

I've been in the hobby for 1.5 years...started in December...just after my 56th birthday. The kid in me just wants to play. I just love bashing around. I've tried the race scene a couple of times but I always end up in the novice races and get my butt whipped by young folks like a lot of you in here. I enjoy marshalling and will keep doing it as long as I can bend over a put the racer back in good shape. I don't even get dizzy when I straighten up...LOL..

I guess it must have been around '87. I bought a Kyosho Turbo Optima when I was 14. Took a little time off from it in the early 90's (had some "other" interests.... ;). Started racing in '96, and still going strong.

I have been doing RC's for 7 years, and that is REAL R/C, not cheap crap, i have been doing that since I was 4. I am 16 now, and I finally landed a job at my Local Hobby Shop. My first car was the Tamyia Hornet, that my dad gave to me, that had not worked for years, after taking a trip to California, and seeing my cousins Cherry LXT.

When will I stop? When you pry the radio from my cold lifeless fingers... :)

a year and a half for me. Like XXER, my first real RC came in at that date. I had like 3 Tyco's and 1 Radioshack, before i stepped up to the plate.

My first car was a second hand Tamiya Rough Rider (geez, I wish I still had that) it was in roughly 1987. So for me bout' 14 years.

Too long to think about... the memories are already dimming about such 'classics' as the Blue Eagle, Top Cat and Cougar, JrX2, Dominator (1st version), the RC-10 sprint car conversion as well as numerous other '10 incarnations, the Raider, the Clod, the Turbo Optima Mid SE (first one I bought *new*), the Blackfoot, the King Cab.. last time I tried to make a list for my wife I ended up with 24 vehicles and still felt I'd missed some..

I first got into rc last year(Im 15 now) when a buddy of mine showed me his cars. Some stadium truck,a TA02, a Mini and a Tamiya F1. Two weeks later I broke my leg and was very bored. So i asked for a TL01 for my 8th grade graduation gift. I put it together in my chair with my cast on, and drove it in my house and in the street with many battery packs so i wouldnt have to hop in my house to recharge em. Now me and my friend have TC3's and race regularly. I also bought a RC10 off a friend for like 40 bucks. But i never use it.

HOLY COW !!
I just did a count in my head (and a little help from my web pages that lists all of them I have had up till a few years ago).

I have had 27 kits ... and that is just the ones I can remember (and I did not count the 4 or so repeat kits (I have had 2 XX4's, 2 XXT's and 3 Traxxas Villains)).
I am including my Mini Z and the ones I am collecting that will never be run.

TUCRACEMAN, I did not keep my Rc10 Graphite. I am not upset with that decision (it was my first kit and it never did see an actual race track. That thing was BEAT TO DEATH by the time I got another RC10 !).

bluesy, you are one cool dude ! It is just too bad we all grow up backward :(
We really should be the most wise when we are born and get less wise as we get old. When we are young, some of the decisions we make (that seem unimportant) sometimes turn out to be really important, and we can sometimes never fully recover from some of the bad ones.
You are disproving the concept that "old" people can't keep up and have fun ! You inspire me, and I am only 32 !

OK, I edited the last few paragraphs like freaking 15 times and I still can't get out what I mean to say ... writers block I guess ;) I hope it kinda sorta made sense !

I stared 2 years ago when i was 13. My middle school Tech. Ed. class had 2 rc10's and raced them at competitions. I had never seen an r/c w/ oil filled shocks and motors that you could change. Then I saved up my money and got a rustler. I just got an hpi rally a week ago and it is a lot of fun. I am glad i got into the hobby, no matter how much money I spend. :D

Okay, I've been into R/C since 1986. But the first time I saw an R/C car was 1983 or so. I was walking home from McDonalds with a friend. We passed through an orange grove and saw some older kids playing with, I think, a Tamiya Rough Rider. It was the coolest.

Anyways, I've had 11 kits and guess what? I still own all of them. My Kyosho Big Brute and Optima are in horrible shape and in boxes. But I've gradually been restoring each one. So far I've restored my RC10 Team Car, Kyosho Turbo Ultima and Tamiya Prerunner. I have a BoLink Eliminator that is nearly finished and an old Hornet that needs help. :)

I have been in about 3 years. I am only 12 though. My first car was going to be a XXcr. But I ended up getting a good used XXcrKE!

if you count Radia Shack cars... that would be about 12 years...

if you count the ones that do not turn unless you go backwards... about 25 years

As far as Nitro... 5 months

David - Thank you, thank you, thank you!! :D :D you took my place as the "Old Guy" here ! ;)

My R/C days started in 1978, when I first laid eyes on what I think was a LaTraxx GT40 electric car. I flew to Santa Cruz to visit my uncle for the summer and proceeded to drive my R/C car up and down the aisle of the 747, which used to be common for domestic flights back then. Of course I couldn't get away with that today - I'd be arrested for somehow offending the flight "crew" while they launch the 1 oz. bag of peanuts at us with a wrist rocket because they found it was easier than walking up and down those REALLY long aisles to HAND us the bird food... But that's another story. :D

Anyway, I dabbled with R/C until some time in 1983 when I was heading out for a ride in my buddy's 27 Magnum Marine off-shore race boat with a pair of 700 horsepower small-blocks (it was a real treat to have your lips ripped off from wind velocity), when this guy named Louis DeFrancesco shows up to take the ride with us. Turns out his family publishes some magazine about radio control airplanes. The rest is history...
