Today I recieved a butane powered soldering iron (man this thing rocks!!) and was naturally looking for some thing to do with it. So I grabbed one of the many 130 size motors I have lying around (I'm not sure why I have them  ) and decided to mod it. I picked the slowest running one from a 9v battery and went to work. The resault was going from a 200 turn (no I'm not kidding I counted) that ran about 4.5K rpms tops, to a 21 Turn running close to 80K rpms. I realize that a 21 turn 130 is good for nothing but it's good for a laugh. It could run close to 90K with no load, but the tach said 80196 rpms. Anyways just thought someone may want to hear about it for a laugh. And no, there is nothing i can use it for, any more load than the tach and it stops. It is the lowest torque motor I think I've ever seen, although I expected it to have low torque. It still funny as hell to see and hear it run though.

P.S. If I remember I'll try to get some pics up.

LOL
Good work!!!

haha, that is awesome! Now if that could only had torque and be put into a Duratrax Mini-Street force or a Mini-T, hey, that would be an awesome idea!!!! :D

If that motor has some torque it would be an amazing little motor. Why dont you try again and try to get some more torque. True that RPMs may not be as high, but I dont think anything can handle 80k RPMs for too long. Just wondering, how do you know the RPM of the motor, cause you have a pretty exact number.

Thats crazy! How did you increse the RPM's by so much?

Im not sure since I dont do electric, but I think he got rid of some of the winds on the motor which increase RPM but decreases torque. Is this right?

lower turns= higher RPMs. This is due to less electricity flowing through the armature making it a weaker electromagnet, thus allowing it to spin faster because the magnets will be able to push it easier. At least I think that's the science behind it...

Edit, Use stronger magnets to give it more torque, something like neodymium mags. Gives monster torque while taking away a bit of RPM.:D

So I was right? Go me. :p I really have no idea about electrics, im suprised I knew that much.

My question is, why on earth did you take the time to count out all 200 turns? lol

mini-z use 130 size motors

I only couted once, I'm not exactly sure about the turns. I counted to 130 then just unravled it the rest of the way. I measured the length of the wire at 130, and when I measured the whole thing and did the math it came out close to 200. Anyways yes I reduced the winds from 200 to 21 just for the fun of it. Honest I had nothing better to do at the time (although my gaming computer would say otherwise lol). I got the RPMs from a digital tachometer (the actual name for an RPM gauge). As far as torque on that thing goes if you touch it as lightly as you can it might stay running, But any more than the lightest touch and you'll stop it dead. I do however have a few ideas that will greatly improve the motor though. One is stronger magnets like earlier suggested. Another is to use much heavier wire. The wire I'm using of course is really small (Imagine 200 winds on a 130 size motor), so if I get some decent gauge wire that'll help alot. Other than that to motor was screwed up to begin with, I'm sorta suprised it even goes because of how bad the com looks. Anyways I'll post again if I can get my stupid digital camera working, or if I make some changes. BTW for those of you who want to know; it drained a full 9V energizer battery with 2:34 sec of run time lol. Can you say amps... Thanks for the comments, I'll keep ya posted.

Haha, so you're saying you're not obsessive compulsive. You're just a nerd. :)
Just so nobody gets mad, being a nerd is not a bad thing in my book :)

I'm alot of things that shouldn't be combined. The first that come to mind are nerd (in many ways), redneck (what can I say I like shotguns and the stop sign looked at me funny), Gamer... I just don't stick to one steriotype I guess lol. Ohh well, the world will just have to deal with it, lol, and no I'm not at all obsessive compulsive (a quick look at my room would tell you that). I mean hey, you've got an old 130 motor, a 9V and a butane powered soldering iron, besides having nothing better to do, really, what else could I do. Just leave the poor motor sitting there with nothing to do?
