Just wondering how you guys get you boats when they stall?

Fishing reel and tennis ball. I put a ball end from a R/C car on the tip of my boats to give the line something to catch. I was All American in water polo so I can get the ball out there pretty well ;)

I run my boat in a river so a fishing line is not quick enough since I am not that good at it. check out the video by clicking the text link in the middle of my page entitled "check out my retreival system". :D

It depends on the situation. Most days at the pond I run at, we use the fishing reels with a tennis ball. On the day of the Invitational race, though, we use a full size boat with a couple of guys in it. Usually, it's not just retrieving boats that day, it's also re-setting bouys.

Model retrieval boats have been tried with indifferent success. I can't remember seeing one used more than a couple of times before it's decided that it doesn't work well. Electric batteries don't hold up to a day's activity, and the gas engines don't really like being run at just-off-idle for extended periods.

I picked up this boat-n-radio off EBAY for a song. Then I fabricated the outrigger and the casting reel mount on the transmitter. This is the best setup I've had yet! The 29" length of this boat and dual engines, get's it out there very fast! My first retrevial boat was a Zig Zag Racer, a disgusting waste of my hard earned $$! I could do a whole post about what a piece of crap those Z/Z's are, but that's not my concern anymore. I have to say that short of a full size boat, BMAD's is the best i've seen. You just drive it out to your boat (dragging fishing line behind it) and you catch the boat, and then you haul it back in with the reel attached to the remote. Works every time.

Well Living In Florida I Have Found That My Old (long) Surf Board Works Well. I Can Paddle Out Get My Boat And Be Back In Just About As Fast As Others With John Boats & Trolling Motors.
Of Course During The Cooler Months I Bring My Kayak. Just Easier To Tote The Surf Board Around.

I Have Seen Other Guys Use Inflatable Rafts, Which Seem To Work Out Well Too. My Objective Is To Get The Boat Back Soon & Not Let The Reciever Batts Burn Up.

I found a small Coleman raft that fits nicely in the back of my Silverado. I also have a spinning reel with a large 3" treble hook, that I've spread out and put fuel line on the prongs, that works pretty well. Haven't tried the tennis ball. What do you mean a ball end from your R/C car? Can you post a pic of it on your boat Water Cadet?

Adam is refering to the the ball shaped bolts/screws used on car and buggy tie rod ends and such. It looks like a miniature trailer ball.

I use an official Ron Popiel Pocket Fisherman, and a floating rubber ball. I put a small screw on the front of my boat.

When the club's jon boat won't be there: A kayak, two-bladed paddle, life jacket, and a short towing line with a suction cup to hold onto the model boat. Even if mine has a tow hook on it, the other guy's might not. Oh, one more thing - learn to eskimo roll the 'yak, or use one of those sit-on-top surf kayaks that you can climb back onto.

The Casting System Will Work Fine If, 1, Its Close Enough To Cast To. 2, Its Not Flipped. 3, Its Not In Some Brush Along Lake/pond Side. Same Applies To Electric Retrieve Boats, They Can't Be Used If Your In Some Brush Or Something. Also If Your Flipped, Not A Good Idea To Drag Your Boat Capsized.

The Good Old Kayak & Canoe Are The Easiest True Methods. The Inflatable Comes After. The Small Task Of Putting Some Soft Racks On Your Car, Far Outway Casting/boat Fishing, Or Having A Electric Boat To Deal With.
You Can Usually Pick Up A Used Canoe & Some Sit On Top Kayaks For About 100.00.

I'd like to have a 'yak though, lots of rapids around here: the Ocoee and Hawassee river. (Ocoee, squill for me:D Has Ned Beaty lived that down yet?)

:D Wife on a floaty is cheapest. :D

YEAH WIFE ON A FLOATY~:D
IF I TRIED THAT, I WOULD BE THE FLOATY.

I HAVE RUN THE OCOEE, NATAHALA, & ONE OTHER IN THAT AREA. I TYPICALLY SPEND SOME TIME IN THE NATAHALA FOREST WHEN I CAN GET AWAY. I WAS CAMPING UP THERE SOME YEARS BACK WHEN THE FBI WAS SEARCHING FOR ROULDOLPH. A HELICOPTER HOVERED OVER MY CAMP FIRE TO SEE IF I WAS HIM. THEN A REPORTER CAME HIKING UP AND TOLD ME THAT, MY BUDDY & I WERE THE ONLY PEOPLE CAMPING ANYWHERE AROUND HERE. HE PUT ME ON CAMERA AND ASKED "WHAT WOULD I DO IF WE WERE APPROACHED BY HIM". WELL I LIFTED MY LEG AND
WHIPPED OUT THE BIGEST STAINLESS STEEL 44 MAGNUM THAT HE HAD EVER SEEN. :D I TOLD THE REPORTER THAT HE ALMOST GOT A GOOD LOOK @ IT EARLIER WHEN HE CAME WALKING UP TO MY CAMP SITE, BEFORE I EVEN KNEW OF THE ROULDOLPH SITUATION. (THAT PART NEVER MADE IN ON T.V.) I WAS ON CBS OUT OF ATLANTA THOUGH. :D

There is no boating certian times of the year at one of the lakes I frequent. Makes the kayak impossible. You have a point though about the grass on the other shore. Hope you can walk there!!

What do you have against pulling in a capsized boat? Do it every time. If it was going to leak it would have done so when it was upside down. Also the hardware would give it something to catch.

Don't think that would work well or at all. Since the hovercraft will have little torque to pull a boat. Then again depends on the size/weight of the boat.
But I think that if you tried with a electric hovercraft all you would be doing is trying to figure out a way to retrieve your boat & hovercraft back.

I am building an ORCA for this purpose all stock as per the instructions except a stronger motor bigger batteries and a special built catch set-up to pull them back. I will let you know how it works in the spring. right now I use my 1100 STX Jetski but the fishing pole method has been used.

I use an achillies inflatable. fits in the truck blows up in minutes. can take a gas of electric motor.
has oars and wood floor.
I'm almost done building a 14' wooden boat. So the achillies will be in the for sale section soon.

idle thought. if you attached your line to a suction cup dart, mount that on the rts boat, you could have it set to release after it made solid contact, then a) the rts tows the boat in or b) reel it in like a fish. :)

LOL Tuslow!!! It's kind of a sad statement when you think about it. We use a $20 K-Mart "toy" to fetch our "models" that we've spent hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars on because they've gone belly up!!! Reminds me of what some people say about parachuting, "Why jump out of a perfectly good airplane?"!!!
