View Full Version : WHY IS NITRO SO COLD?????

Hey guys i just thought of this but when u hold the fuel bottle with fuel in it it doesnt seem cold but when u get a drop or two on your hands it gets REALLY cold what makes this happen? thanks

The process of evaporation is endothermic (requires heat). The cold feeling is caused by the fuel sucking the heat from your skin. It's the same theory behind sweat, just evaporates faster causing more "cold"

What he said. Plus, I beleive that is the Methanol in the fuel that does that.

Yup he's right. Same thing with motor spray too. Once I cleaned a motor in 90* humidy whether and it got cold enough to have condensation on it.

It is the methanol...kinda funny cuz I use that stuff to cool my hands down when I burn myself (dont try this, it can hurt). Applying Nitro Methane to a burn...that sounds nice...

Methanol maybe but the main ingredient of Nitro fuel is Alcohol which evaporates just as fast.

The only thing left on your hand is oil, and a little water.
