It’s really a small world out there. I’ve been driving at my local track for about a month now. It’s a blast, but me being a novice I always feel pressure from the more experienced racers. Well I’ve been looking at the guys and remembering their names (always seem to be in first place). Turns out the REALLY PRO guys practice with novices like me. I was really suppressed when I went to a review page on the new Losi Street Weapon (the Kinwald edition). I knew the name sounded familiar – and the reason was that Brian Kinwald practices at the same track I do!! It’s really kewl to know that the guy who blew by you has also blown by some of the top names in racing! I even have the honor of getting a few smudges on my car when he ran me over! (I’m in a 1/12 scale). I just had to share this. Never know who that guy standing next to you on that driver stand could be!

TC, you should take the time to talk with these guys when they're not too busy in the pits. Kinwald & other pros are usually very helpful to beginners, especially guys that share their home tracks. It's amazing what you can pick up from just talking w/a pro like Kinwald---check his car out, and pick his brain!!

ACtually, BK i hear likes to keep his set up to him, from what i understand, some people(not saying any names) will de springs, and some people that may race for *cough* trinity, losi, and airtronics*cough*BK*cough* sorry, stupid cat, actually will paint the springs with black nail polish, and leave the bottoms reg. color, so they know what it is. Matt Francis, and Jimmy Babcock are some of the coolest guys i have met on the web, and i look forward to seeing them at the April Fool's Classic here. (don't worry steve, you are the man too http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/biggrin.gif )

Most of the Losi drivers run black springs. I do as well. It is mainly done to improve the appearance of the car.
There is a degree of setup protection, but I have never seen one of the drivers not help somebody out. The idea is not to hold fellow Losi drivers back, but to keep the comp. from getting a general idea of the setup; low pack/hard spring, high pack/soft spring, etc. You usually run lower roll centers will a soft setup and hihger roll centers with stiff setups, etc.
The biggest reason the fast guys give out their setups freely(Matt Francis comes to mind) is because often what works for him will not work for Joe Novice.
I laugh when some kid goes on TT says how dialed Matt's setup is at his track.....lol....
