Hey,
In one of the past RCCA articles I saw an article that gave a method on how to increase RPM's on closed endbell motors. Does anyone know how to do this procedure? Also how much more RPM's should I expect? I am working with Drill motors.
Thanks

The best thing you can do with the Mabuchi-style stock motors is to get the brushes fully broken-in. The brush compound is very hard, so it takes a while. The stock brushes only contact the comm in two places instead of across the full face of the brushes. This is where the practice of breaking in the motor under water became so popular. It keeps the motor cool during the process, and accelerates the process dramatically. Attach the motor to a 4 or 6-cell pack and dip it in a glass of water. Do this through an entire pack or two, then flush the motor completely with motor spray. Finally, pick-up some Pro-Long engine lubricant and place a drop on each bushing, and one on the commutator.

In addition to breaking motors in water, you can also use Crest Toothpaste on the bushings on each end of the motor. Run the motor with a four cell battery pack til it runs completely down. Then flush motor out very well with motor spray, then lubricate the ends with a good grade of oil. My suggestion is Mobil One Synthetic 10W30. Good Luck and Good Racing,
Jeff
