Do lithium batteries need a special charger or will something like an intellipeak or MRC 959 work?

Lipolys do need a special charger. The Electrify Triton is the only one I know of but there are definitly more out there.

These just say Lithium on them, so I dont know if theyre the same or not, the catalog says nothing about it. I definately wont try it on a good charger then, Ive got an old charger I got for free in a trade I might hook it up to a cell out in the middle of my driveway and see what happens.

Don't charge it at a high amp rate. That will keep the heat down. If it is a Lipoly battery then it shouldn't get hot at all. If it does LOOK OUT.

DO NOT USE AN INTELLIPEAK OR A MRC 969 CHARGER!!!

You are asking for trouble and they will not charge them correctly.

Get an Astro Flight 109 charger and charge at 1C rate. This 1C rate is the capacity size in amps to the rate charged at...example: 8,000 mah battery=8 amp charge rate and a 1,650 mah battery=1.65 amp charge rate. This is what is recommended by most Lithium Poly battery manufacturers to charge them at.

I have been using Li-Pos in my T-4, XXX-T, XXX-4 and 1/8th scale buggy for over 1 year now and I will never go back to nickel batteries!

Good Luck!

Are there any cheaper charging solutions? Like you can buy $10 wall chargers for NICDs is there a cheaper solution that a peak charger for lithium? The batts dont need to be in top shape, I want to make small nitro reciever packs.

Sorry about that, you did not mention RX packs in your 1st post. Don't know anything about those since I don't like nitro.

Good Luck and don't burn the house down.

8,000 mah pack will get between 40 to 60 minutes of run time in 1/10th scale. We race 20 to 30 minute electric/gas mains all the time.
