Hmm... thanks for the warning. I guess I'll have to look around for somewhere to race. Durham's site hasn't been updated in quite a while, so I don't know if anything is going on there. And I despise off-road...

We may just have to build our own track. I wasn't looking spend another couple grand quite yet though...

You can come on down to Rosewood just about any saturday. They are still running on the carpet for the next few weeks then going outside on the asphalt.

Yeah, but that's a little farther than I want to drive for just a day.

Ha Cosmo - The Race Dates on Durham's website are for 2005. Some of the pages might be old but the schedule was posted in February. You should come out and race. It would be worth the drive. Rosewood has very nice tracks too. I'll probably be racing those two tracks most of the summer. There are some offroad tracks I want to check out when I get my new race truck. Hope to see ya out sometime.

Based on the weather forcast as of Fri at 9:00 AM I am resheduling the April 2nd race to April 16th. I will call TRF at 12:30 on Sunday to verify how many entries there are at that time.

Well, Durham isn't bad, but Rosewood is a little too far just for the day. We pull our 16 foot trailer to the races, so you have to add about an hour to the normal travelling time when we do.

I may make it down to Durham later in the season though. I need to decide which class I want to run and then buy the stuff for that class before I do any racing...

OK everyone please come to TRF on Sunday!!

Or why don't we do Durham on Sunday because it will be nice out?

Hey, is that mini-Tcontest still going on? If so, what is the current mark to beat? and is it on the same layout or a different one? Got mine running pretty good and I was thinking of trying to see what I might do with it there. Also, you are open this weekend?

Cosmo
04-02-2005, 11:44 AM
Ahh, so they ARE running tomorrow? I wish I had known earlier. There are about 6 of us who were looking for a place to run this weekend. It would be nice if TRF would return just one of my e-mails...

Ron - as far as I know the Mini-T contest is still on. Know one has been there in several weeks to be included on it so it might not be. I will see Jack either Tuesday or Wednesday night and find out what is going on with it. I imagine the mark is not to high at this point, that is if it is still on at all.

Cosmo - at this time TRF has to depend on Don from the Durham track to bring his timing system. If he dosen't have enough to race we don't have the timer. Maybe this will change in the future. However unless it is a holliday he is open every Sunday from noon till six pm. You and anyone else that wants to try the track are wellcome to come. Call him at 919-460-8797 for more info. Ask for Jack.

It is to bad we can't seem to get a good time frame for each place to race so all can enjoy but I guess that is what happens when we have so much to do.

since it will probably rain friday afternoon, I'll go to TRF to do some short track practice in anticipation for Saturday at Kenly. I was planning on going to durham but this time of year if they call for rain, it usually does rain :o

I know there have been several who have posted notes about several things here at TRF or who have asked questions and haven't received an answer.

I will attempt to set all records straight.

The last 6 - 8 weeks have been very busy with the slot car race held Mar 18-20. There was a lot of preperation getting ready for it. The day after it ended, I had the builder of my king track show up with a new one. I didn't know he was coming until 3 days before. We spent a week taking apart the old track and installing the new track.

I have heard comments saying I was ignoring the r/c racers? I'm not sure about that.

It has been that when we had the racing on Sunday's, that has also been the day when I have birthday parties. If anyone felt I was ignoring them, then I apologize. These parties at times can be very demanding, even though I have a couple of helpers. At times it seems as if the helpers are constantly bringing me a car that some kid has slammed into the wall and broken this or that. Not only does that take time, it's also nerve racking.

The r/c racing and slot racing are similiar yet quite different. With slot cars, you can only get parts at a raceway thus helping to support the local track. Of course you can purchase stuff off ebay, either used and not usually the stuff most raceways stock. With r/c, you guys have many avenue's to purchase - from all the hobby stores to ebay to Great Planes or Horizon Hobby. That makes it tough on the local tracks, especially if they are bought from ebay or one of the major hobby distributors.

In r/c there aren't as many interchangable parts as there are in slots. A place has to stock so much more. It's like a catch 22 situation - a store stocks parts and then racers buy elsewhere so the store has a lot of inventory that doesn't move that quickly and when it does, is leary of restocking.

There have been several who have ordered parts and that has been much appreciated. TRF like any hobby store can order parts and get them within several days, in time for weekend racing.

I have told the slot racers and I'll mention it here - and it's not meant to be a derogatory or knock on anyone. If local racers don't support the track they are racing at because they might get something somewhere else, then that puts the track in a bind. They don't get sales so it makes it hard to order stuff. If you don't have stuff to sell, you don't get sales. Another catch 22.
Now I'm not saying people haven't been buying parts at TRF because they have been.

Ok, enough of this. If anyone has any comments either public or private, I welcome all responses.

As far as racing goes - Sunday's appear to be no good with the change in weather with those wanting to race outdoors. I want to change the weekly racing back to Friday nights. I normally don't schedule birthday parties then so there won't be all the kids and parents running around. It will be just racing. Would like to start again this Friday with the program.

Again I want to apologize to any who felt I have either ignored or slighted in any way. That is not the way I treat people.

Jack...

AWESOME DEAL JACK! Friday is the way to go. You will get a better turnout. I think that was the best. I mean people can run that track Friday and get up to speed on a tight track and then run the bigger Rosewood or Durham track on the weekend. Thats the way to go, and I think almost everyone will agree with this decision. In fact if everybody wants to start this Friday, I'm game- I'll be there anyway. I'll need to get that other alfa body though so i can save my nice new Stratus for outdoor use :D

Jack good call. I agree on the parts thing- you can ask the owner of Glenn's hobby corner/Rosewood about buying stuff local. I put about $160 on his table on Saturday.

You really need to get the word out that you are a hobby store- Hungates just down the road is in a mall, you're kind of out by yourself. I'll be telling people at Kenly this weekend all about your place.

I buy from both Horizon and Great Planes.

Another note - I know the Road Dome/Rail is less than ideal and am planning on replacing it. I've heard some say that pvc has a drawback as cars could run under it. Does anyone know if they make square pvc? Also been thinking about wood. I'm definately going to put a wall around the perimeter of the track to keep cars in and kids out.

cheerwhiner
04-05-2005, 09:47 PM
rosewood seems to be about perfect. guys that go there a lot please give your input. it loooked like 2 two by fours set on top of each other for the inside walls (like road rails) then a 2.5 foot high wall around the perimeter. no cars ever left the track, i had no tire chunking and i of course hit the barrirers a few times. they don't move either, not sure if they were nailed down or what. seemed effecient. of course its a larger track though.

Cool.. What time is Friday racing starting?

I guess this brings up one of my pet peeves. Lack of 'official' information on things from the 'official' sources. Here are some examples of what I am taliking about - mostly web CONTENT. How many times have people asked what the rules & specifics are for the Kenley race. Or what DAY does racing at Rosewood happen and at what time --it's not on the website other than 'weekend', the Rosewood track address is not intuitive on the website... The TRF site does not menton the Friday change yet. Like most of the techies that I know I get 95% of my info off the web. Sure some of that type info is covered on message boards like this one but do if you do not know what corner of the web these message boards are they might as well be not there unless it is linked from the official web site.

Ron Zee
04-06-2005, 12:05 AM
Well there used to be a Rosewood.com but it had to go away. (Cost too darn much!) Now it's glennshobbycorner. I'm pretty sure it lists the race days as Saturday starting at 12 until done. When the new drivers stand gets done, we'll be switching to running outside for the summer. Right now, its inside on the rug.
Race factory's site for some reason is listed under redjacksraceway.com With all the guys there have going on, it does sometimes take a little while to update the site. They'll get to it sooner or later.

And if the Factory does switch or decide to run on Fri. again, I really fell that I'll be able to make it there more often again.

jtn
04-06-2005, 08:50 AM
I agree with bshuff. No one ever did get any solid rules posted for the Kenly race. I would suggest to just follow ROAR rules and you should be legal....The information should be listed on these websites but like Ron said....things change and the websites don;t get updated.

Race time for Fridays - I believe when we raced on Fridays before we began at 7:30pm? Is that good for you guys or do ya want to start sooner? I was thinking any time sooner might not be good with getting off work and coming over (Ron and any others coming from that way).

Ron, I will be there with the TC4 ready for carpet. If its just practicing thats fine with me, hopefully others will show up. Need to make sure the car is OK for saturday at Kenly.

I no longer have my mini Ts sold them and just shipped them- like an hour ago! Got a good price I wanted so not complaining. To me it was a more of a fad (personally I just wanted to race something but should have gotten a TC instead of an 1/18 truck), I think the rc18t is a better deal, but honestly since getting the tc4 if I had an 18t i would not have driven it either.

Just spend all the racing time with the touring car. My emaxx gets bashed outside, and thats about it!

Good luck to you (and all my other buds) tomorrow at Kenly!

Basically the stock class was:

Pete Won
Billy Second
Mark Third *** also ran nitro
Will Duncan fourth
Justin fifth
Tim sixth (broken car 3 or 4 laps in d'oh)

and that was it for the turnout of stock.

and my GOD Pete had like 50 laps and the TQ from nitro only had I THINK 48 laps!!!! Pete on was on it today. The wind was very strong, pits were strange.

jtn
04-09-2005, 08:16 PM
you need to explain that better Cheer. Nitro was a little slower since the track was 'a little' tight.
Not trying to take anything away from Pete cause he did have the Pro 4 looking good out there!!
But, Nitro cars are heavier and are slower in the turns than electric....blah blah.
Anyway,
Nitro had 6 cars too. Thomas Medlin TQ'd with 49 Laps.

Main results:

John N. 1st
Michael Medlin 2nd
Mark Painter 3rd
Rodney Perry 4th
Thomas Medlin 5th
Steve Benesch 6th

I thank Thomas and I had a 50 lap run in the second qul. with nitro 30 sec to go we had 47 laps but when we got done the race got lost when the computer got unpluged.

Why do people always think that my car makes wierd noises... Wonder if it is cause I cant hear it cause I wear ear plugs when I drive it. It is pushing ~17psi through a Lysholm belt driven charger. I can go to ~23psi by going to a smaller pulley without doing any more motor work, 25 would be achievable with a bit of work. At 17psi it is 180whp which is plenty fast in a 2400lb FWD car. The car was supercharged 'stock', that stock charger is long gone. The previous owner neglected the maintenance on it and it self destructed and sold the car super cheap. I started on the car before I got laid off, and have not had any $$ to really do what I want to it. Might even redo the throttle body arrangement to cut down on the whine.

Pete, it would be a good idea for me to sell it because it is a high dollar item and I have perfect 100% feedback for over 36 transactions. HOWEVER because I just sold one, it may seem like I'm trying to unload them. That isn't good! Just get everything together and I'll take care of it still. Just let me know. I am selling stuff every week now. The best time to list is on a Sunday night and let it run for 7 days. Never list during the middle of the week and have an auction end in the middle of the week!

I'll probably come by TRF some night this week and do some running because with gas costing $Texas I cannot go to Durham as often. I'll just get there first thing Saturday. Unlike Kenly, I know the procedure, the track, where to park, how to get to Durham!

Long Live Durham...Pete..bring as many as you can. A BIG turnout Saturday would be great for the track and all of us that drive there. Spent the night converting the RS4-Pro to asphalt mode...the Mission is next, then Justin's Losi (parts coming in on Thus. or Fri.). I'm thinking final G/R in the range of 6.5 to 6.8 on all 3 cars, depending on the motor. Ride heighth 6mm. The rest I'm still working out. And by the way...any word on the rubber/foam rules for elec. stock????

Man if the racing is going to start at 6 oclock I can't make it I don't get off until 6.

Was this comment for Fri at TRF? The racing will be like it was late last year when we raced on Fri. We will start around 7:30 or so. I wouldn't start anything that early knowing you guys have to get off work and maybe go home to get your stuff.

At the TRF??? yes. friday nights have been ideal in the past so he started them back up. i totally agree with the move (although i helped suggest he change to sunday). don is usually on standby to see who's there. if the numbers are right, (i've seen it as low as 3) he'll bring the 'puter and ring tha' bell. heck, sometimes he's even there waiting on us!
but if there's a race friday....there MIGHT not be a 'puter there. durham's big money race is the saturday after. hey, if you're going that way....check it out! do you have any vehicles?

Wish I could go tomorrow Pete. There is a Amateur radio hamfest in Raleigh and some friends of mine and I have several tables so I have to be there. That was reserved six months ago. I might try to come by and look for a short. My cars aren't ready for the dirt anyway. I have to sit down and see what I need to order so I won't have to take electrices off the other ones to make them work. I have the recievers now but I think I need two speed controls for the T2 truck and my 4WD Yokomo. That Yokomo hasn't been run in 6 years so it will be an effort to get it running. I wonder if I can find some parts for it????

Had some fun at TRF tonight with Ron. Also took both cars apart to start some rebuilding afterwards.

Schumacher sells 3 grades based on track temp.
Takeoff's in CS 22,27 and 32.

JimmyMac
05-10-2005, 01:06 AM
Takeoff has 3~4 or more different premounted tires. All are CS22, 27, and 32 ratings. Some are same tire rating but with different inserts and/or wheels. Takeoff also offers them "unmounted" where they have an addition CS37 tire that is excellent for hot weather. This is your best bet for June/July/August time frame. Maybe even September. However, CS27 is an all around tire that will work in just about any condition if you know how to set it up properly.

Well fellows it is with regret and sadness I announce that The Race Factory will be closing as of June the 5th. To much overhead and poor attendance of the slot races have done the racing program and Jack in. Jack has asked me to make some of you who have supported him and The Race Factory aware of what he has left at some good prices.

Alot of Mini-T parts, a good selection of them are aluminum, a large amount of Mini-T bodies and a very few parts for other RC cars also. All at 25 to 50% off. Also has two of The Mamba Brushless setups for the Mini-T at a very good price. Here is a list of the new RC RTRs he still has:

All new
1 Stadium Maxx Nitro
3 Mini-T Pros
1 Micro RS4
5 Mini-Zs
1 Losi XXXs

1 Calandra Carpet Knife Ver 3.1 KIT

And 1 Used Savage nitro also at a good price

Several bottles of break-in fuel and several new nitro bottles.

Like I said I am sorry to see Jack close but we wanted you who have supported him to get the first shot and getting things at a good price before it goes on ePay. call Jack at 919-460-8797 if you have any questions about anything. Leave a message if you get the machine or send me an email if you can't get him and I will find out what is up.

Thanks for looking and hope to see you Sunday at TRRAC.

He is trying several different apporaches to keeping some slot racing in Raleigh. One track is going to Wake Forest to open later this year. The other might go to Apex.

I have all that is left of the RC inventory in my truck and will bring it to TRRAC on Sunday rain or shine cause it all has to go. It will be 50% off at least, BUT WILL BE CASH ONLY!

See yall Sunday.

Good bye Race Factory. You were good while you were here. Sorry things didn't work out. Here's to you and hoping things go better in the future.
