Just bought a Villian IV, and have been reading a few things about the boat that seem to need upgrading from the start. Will this boat hold up in stock form, or do I need to do some stuff to it? (motor mounts, props, and even upgrading the motors and esp's seem popular.) If so, what are the main concerns? Thanks for any advice.

The Villain IV is fine out of the box. Save your money and buy the best (highest capacity) batteries you can. Just like every other RTR boat, there are many things you can do to this boat to improve its performance, but none of them are needed right out of the box.

Mat, in your opinion, what are the best batteries for my villian? Thanks!

assuming you have the EVX, im pretty sure you can run dual 7 cell packs. also assuming you have a good budget, id look at some of the new assembled matched packs availiable today

No he doesn't have the EVX, at least not with a villain IV. That only comes with the EX. You can still run 7 cell packs, though.

I would go with GP 3300's from almost any company or the new Sanyo 3600.

I would go with gp3300's if you can afford them
