Hey all,
Winter is appraching and Nitro season is about over. I have a Mini-Z monster and it's fun but a little unsatisfying as a real Monster Truck. I suddenly got turned on to the TLT-1 and found the Max Climber kit. Here's what I already have new in the box form a scrapped project:

Novak Fusion ESC
Futaba 2PL with tiny RX
5 Assembled Matched packs
Venom 17turn Modified Motor
A pile of brand new stock Servo's

The reason I like the Max Climber more than the Rockbuster is that I already have a bunch of nice packs and no electrics to run them in and the MC will use a standard pack instead of the hex shape Tamiya pack. Here's what I need help with:

What bearings do I need to order with the truck to have all the bushings replaced with bearings? Number of each and sizes please

What extra parts do I need for 4 wheel steering with my Futaba 2PL? And how would I be able to select 4ws on and off? Just center the servo and unplug the rear?

What else do I need to get it built right the first time and save problems down the road?

If I want to play outside with it will it be fast enough to keep it interesting or is it geared to simply crawl and that's all?

Thanks in advance!

OK...I've been scouring the web all day. I found that the Max Climber uses a standard stick pack. All of my packs are side by side racing type packs.....I've seen folks make 6 cell packs by putting 3 in front and 3 in back of the ESC in the standard Rock Buster. Here's another question: Can I disassemble my current packs and put them back together in the 3+3 configuration to use them in a regular rock buster TLT-1? If so that will save me some bucks up front. My worries are about killing my batteries by desoldering and resoldering them. Help.....

the side by side packs are fine, and should fit no problem in the max climber. but it will wheelie very easily and thats why the rock buster guys run the 3+3 config, it really help prevent wheelies.

dont worry too much about resoldering your packs as long as you dont get them insanely hot. just egough to unsolder them and resolder them.

also to disable 4ws you can't just unplug the rear servo, and leave it centered, it will get knocked out of alignment.

and dont worry it will be plenty fast.

Hey all,
I just placed my order. I went through Tower because with the $20 coupon this month it was only $5 more than the deal at Ultimate and I could order it all at the same time.

Here's what I ordered:
TLT-1 Rockbuster
Tamiya Carbon Fiber Chassis set
Tamiya 20pc bearing kit
8 5x8 Duratrax bearings
EMS Servo Reverser
Traxxas Slipper Pegs
Orion 14g wire to make my new packs with.

Here's what I have on hand to build it with:
Novak Fusion ESC
Futaba Micro RX
2 Hitec HS311 Servo's
Venom Fireball 17t BB motor
Associated Factory Team heat sink
5 Matched Battery Packs (1- 2000, 2-2400, 2- 3000)

Since I saved so much by buying the Rockbuster over the Max Climber I decided to get the CF chassis right away. I just can't stand the stock plates and the CF looks sooooo sweet.

Thanks for all the help. I'll get some pictures up once it's built.

you may want to lock the center diff when building your new truck. when your climbing and either the front or rear starts to slip you will get stuck. the center diff is a ball diff not a locked diff. you can use HPI 2.2 truck wheels. these come with adapters and they work perfect for the tlt.
