which would be better for simple backyard bashing, not planning to race it, may take it to the track, but more for hill climbing and jumping.
I have experience with a factory team RC10GT (for sale section)and like associated.
suggestions?

revo will be more dynamic, it should accelerate better, ive never seen MGT run inperson, but its much heavier ( i know how much it weights and ive seen many savages), but revo reacts more like ST to me

Based on what I've seen at the track, I'd take the MGT for a basher (but then, I have an MGT) or a racer, since as far as I could tell, the Revo that I beat didn't seem to have much advantage over my MGT. Some of it could have been down to the driver too, but I'm refering to the rough parts of the track, where the revo looked out of shape - which really suprised me because of the suspension on it. These are just my observations and opinions. Someone else, somewhere else, may have noticed just exactly the oposite.

i'd say the MGT too. i've seen the revo in action too. not impressed. it looked just like a t-maxx as far as handling. the revo looks good on paper, but the track tells a diferent story.

I'd say go with the Revo. When I drove an MGT it handled a lot like a T-MAXX, and it's design is very similar to a MAXX. On the other hand a Revo drives more like a stadium truck and feels a lot better around the track. Plus you can throw the other rocker arms on it for more suspension travel if you want to bash.

the only problem with the longer travel is that it isnt progressive after you swap, therefore it bottoms out VERY easy, on all reviews it says that the other suspension is only good for rock crawling, not for jumping. plus i dont want a stadium truck, since thats what im selling to get the MT

Dude, CA is for gluing tires, not inhaling...
Having driven a few customers' revos, they are quite a bit more solidly planted than a tmaxx, even with the softer suspension setup. They really are quite impressive.

pwewwwwwwww... ahhhhh ( as he bellows ca from his lungs)
more solidly planted than a t-maxx? thats not much of a compliment. thats like comparing vomit to poop.
well i've drven one, and seen quite a few in action. i have two words for it. rollovers and cartwheels. it's like traxxas has never heard of "CENTER OF GRAVITY".

coolhead, you and killah mgt should start an anti-Traxxas forum, then you're lives would be complete. :)
I have driven the Revo on the pavement pretty hard, and watched a customer/friend race his at the track, and it corners and jumps very well, with very little "rollovers and cartwheels". Maybe if you had some "throttle control", this wouldn't be a problem. :) Of course, I can roll anything given the way I drive, and I didn't roll the Revo! :D Yet.
Center of gravity? The Revo has a small-block engine canted towards the centerline of the truck laydown shocks, and a smaller transmission. Compared to the taller, big-block powered, 8 stand up shock MGT, the Revo is leap years ahead in terms of mass centralization and center of gravity. I think Traxxas' engineers have engineering degrees, and have figured out the "center of gravity".

hay, if you guys think the revo is the cats meow, then so be it. if you didn't roll it , you weren't driving it. i tried driving on the street. it definatly had traction roll problems. off road, same thing. hit a bump sideways, and it flipped quite easily. maybe you should try driving it a little bit harder next time.
as for center of gravity. sure the revo has its mass centerd. but the overall cg is up too high. and lets not talk about how time consuming they are to work on.
lets face the truth here, compared to AE, Losi, mugen, kyosho, traxxas hasn't changed there product line in quite some time. accept for the addition of the "revo" and the "2.5". traxxas is a stagnant company that markets to noobies. 50+mph! WOW, strait into a curb!
take the trx2.5 for instance. why didn't they call it what it is. a .15ci ? they marketed it as a 2.5cc hoping some dumba$$ would think it was bigger and more powerfull than a .15. and it worked.
now you say traxxas hire some real engineers? you give engineers too much credit. the pinto, cavalier, chrysler "K"car, rabbit diesel, YUGO, corvair, vega, were all designed by engineers. hell, GM engineers havn't got a fuel pump right in 15yrs. they designed some real crap! a degree doesn't make you wise, it just makes you think your knowledgable.

70machwon- Is there a reason you don't want a Savage, cause it seems to fit the role of "backyard basher" better than these two trucks. Just a thought
PS- I like your screen name, cept I've got a 69 mach :p

That's probably because it isn't really at home on the rough stuff. It's basically a larger Stadium Truck with an extra diff. And, on top of that...it's got F1 suspension. It's really really close to the suspension of a Formula-1 car. It's not desinged for the rough stuff. It's not a bad truck, it just doesn't seem suited for what you're looking for

i havnt seen too much of the savage, but it seems pretty similar to the MGT, and if there pretty rimilar, id rather go associated (damn my loyalty :D ).
PS. 69 machs are cool by me, the side looks a lot more muscular, but i like the front and back of the 70 more (recessed tail lights, only one headlight per side) but thats just me.

Ok here I come.
The revo is NOT a monster truck, I don't care what any one says. It's a realyl Cool design, but not cool in your back yard. the suspension is a total joke, like mike said, they took the design from a race car, and guess what, F1's don't go off road  THe MGT handles AWESOME and can go to the track and WIN BONE STOCK. and the savage and MGT are not that similar. the savage chassis, shocks, engine, and radio, are all differnt from the MGT, the mGT has a high torq servo, [a few ounces higher then the savage which does make a differnce] a .21 engine compared to the savage's .25 [THe MGT flies off the line, and my stock TT .21 has plenty of power, more then enough to push this truck] the shocks on the savage and HUGE compared to the MGT, but I have found that the mGT corners and handles alot better then the savage. I am not saying the revo is a bad truck, it's pretty cool, But i have yet to be impressed, on the track, on the drag strip, and off road. IMO the mGT is better because it can take the track, and the back yard. It is a trure monster truck, not a ST with big wheels

Oh thats not a review, this is
Building Comments:
I started out by checking all the screws, had my bottle of lock tight handy, I expected there it be a few lose screws, but I could not find one! There was nothing to be done, except put the wheels on and oil the filter, it gives a new meaning to the word RTR, because it truly is ready to run. Gets a solid 10.0 on building
General Comments:
I took it out back and filled the tank, then primed it using the primer bulb, this thing is really cool because it has a valve, so you squeeze twice, and the engine is primed. I decided to use the drill method to start it with my old black & decked cordless drill, stuck the hex drill bit [included] in the jack, and pulled the trigger of the drill, and 4 seconds latter the beast was running. I followed the break in, just like the book said then took her off road. Gets a 8.5 on brake in, other then the first tank being annoying to get through, but break in sucks any way so....
As for the engine, it's only a .21, but it has the power or a .28! I have no trouble going through just about any thing, and after the first 3 or 4 tanks its super easy to tune and starts right up. 9.5 On the engine
Suspension is really good, handles just about any thing just like the engine, how ever the fake reservoirs on the side a really cheese, the shocks them selfs are very good, but there's room for improvement, 8.0
The drive train is really nice, almost all aluminum, which makes for a very smooth ride, and an almost indestructible system. The a-arms LOOK like the t-mix a-arms, but they are nothing like them there MUCH stronger and MUCH bigger, and have extra bracing. 9.5
The whole radio system is very nice, the XP3 is awesome, has a steering rate adjustment [a big plus in stock radio systems, really helps if you plan to race] and then the standard throttle and steering alignment. No real need for an upgrade here. The throttle and brake servo is good, but a high torque one would help allot with braking. The steering servo is awesome, 111 ounces of torque, throws the wheels back and forth like Childs play. And if you have a 6.0 volt receiver pack it helps allot too. 10.0
After she [yep, she, all my trucks are girls ] was fully broken in I took her off road. decided to start with some loose gravel trail driving, tried as best I could to slid, but couldnt manage too [a good thing a guess] so I took it in some 4 foot tall grass, and man it plows through it. Next up for it was some pit driving, so I took it out to a huge water pit [about 2 inches of water in it] and gave it 1/2 throttle down the slope, went right through the water and mud, then drove right back out of the pit [ about a 25 foot slope] and just kept going. Finally to complete my testing I set up a jump. lined it up and hit WOT hit the jump and went air born, it was awesome, got about 4 seconds of air then came falling back down, it almost looked like a crash, I feared the worst got to it shut it off too the body off, and there was nothing wrong LOL, bump and jump and general driving gets an AWESOME 10.0
Conclusion, the MGT is one AWESOME monster truck, with a rear exhaust, .21 size engine that pack punch, a very nice radio, and cool flag on the body, the whole rating I would give it is a nice SOLID 9.5, the savage 25, being a 9.0, the MGT handled WAY better then my savage 25 did, it also took jumps better too. If your looking for one AWESOME monster truck gets a monster GT, you won't be sorry. I did not break a thing after a HARD beating.
This concludes my review of the Associated Monster GT.
Was that infomative?
