While roaming through Toys R Us this weekend I saw these huge 1:6 scale RC's by New Bright Industries (http://www.newbright.com/searchpop.cfm?s1=rc16). The detail was pretty impressive but naturally the rest of it looked cheap. The Radio was a junky dual stick with all sorts of crazy buttons for lights, horns etc.

It did have spring dampers that looked roughly the size of a T-Maxx shock. Then I got to thinking about if you could hop-up this thing. Maybe you could rip the radio out and out in a decent FM wheel radio. And maybe you could change the shocks to oil filled dampers. Maybe even modify the gearing to make it faster.

Anyone ever try to convert one of these low priced jobs to a decent rig? Could be a real fun project for someone with the abilty to machine some new chassis parts.

There was a post on here somewhere a while ago a guy did a project on the avalanche 1/6 from new bright. He basically put a computer in it(mini-itx) computer was what it was cold with a small monitor on the bed in the back kept the stock motor and everything i think he changed to a pistol grip radio and did some rewiring you should be able to find the psot somewhere i think if i come across it i will let you know. Also i was gonna go a project like this a while ago but never got to it i was gonna do a hummer h2 but now i decided i will got with the caddy escalade it looks nice.ill keep you updated on everything. good luck let me know how it goes for you.

I tried to convert a 1:8 SUV (the most incredible body detail imaginable, everything else was a disaster) but it was a nightmare... you will need to fabricate your own parts such as suspension arms, mounts, get some drivesahfts, differentials etc if you want it to get anywhere near a pro RC vehicle.

yes that is very true but if your going for looks you can pretty much just pick out a wild color and add your little touches to the vehicle and if you ahve the time maybe put in lights that work and turn signals stuff like that, also maybe a bigger stronger motor for kicks maybe even hydralics ive seen them on tiny models they look pretty neat, lol.

Body, lights, interior are already there.. but you can't fit a bigger motor due to the size and type of most toy rcs. which is why you need the differential and all gears... someday i will do it. just not this year. :)
