Here are some pix of my Cox free flight conversion I'm working on. I just applied frankenfomies Viper ideas to another airplane. Sorry about the image size and resolution. I'm working on getting a better camera.

Well, I won't have it flying until saturday (or later becuase of the air lockdown). I tried a rayovac 9v but the amperage draw from the gws direct blew the battery up. My 120 mah NIMH's also wouldn't withstand the 1.7 amp draw. It worked fine with my 50 mah NiCads, however the flight times would be very short with those. So I bought some 220 mah NIMH's from todd last night. These batteries are supposedly rated to 2.5 amps so that will be good for the new GWS EDF as well. I'll let you know how it goes.

King,
are you sure the 120's won't work. I used my 120's on a GWS direct drive with their recommended 3.2x2 prop and they did just fine. I was flying Allan Wright's Electric Mite. They get pretty warm, but no problems so far....

I use the Ray O Vac with the same motor set up.
Your motor may be different (is it the DX as I use?)
The Ray o vac does better if it has been cycled a few times.
Clipping a 1/4 inch from each prop should unload the motor some.
Love the full open fuselage you have :)

Yes, I'm using a motor froma GWS DX-A. I was just testing it yesterday with the Rayovac and it "puffed up" on me. It now has about 277mV on it and will not charge... I wonder if I just got a bad battery. I'l drop by walmart and get another to test.

I had a puffer also.
They are not vented and the faster charging may have affected it.
I use a SIRIUS 100 mah charger that uses peak prediction rather than detection.
Reverses the pulse once per second. This keeps the battery cool. The stock Rayovac charger is 15 ma I believe. Straying too far from that invites trouble.
There is a picture of the "puffer" on the MISC page on my site.
