Fair warning to anyone who races with TRF. If you race with him, your car will come out busted. :D

I live in Albuquerque, there is alot of racers here, on and off road. The biggest lhs moved recently and won't have a new track for a while (for electrics), there is a nitro on road, and a few dirt off road track though. What do you race?

TRF Drive Hard
10-10-2004, 04:54 AM
I race touring electric... pretty much when i semi settle down... i wanna hit the tracks... currently running a 415 and a 414m2 as a back-up...

I just moved to ABQ too! Well sorta; I live on the UNM campus. I think it'd be great to get some ABQ racers to a parking lot and bash.

A hobby shop just opened up on Menaul street, called outwest hobby. pretty big, and they've got some huge planes hanging from their atrium. I'll prolly drop in there wednesday to see what's what and if I remember.

BTW, why are you moving out here? It really sucks in NM. Hope you like green chile, it's in everything out here.

TRF Drive Hard
10-10-2004, 11:48 PM

Yeah, I think two other hobby shps (both southwest hobbies) moved to a new big one on menaul (they took out the s and the h to make it outwest hobbies).

Also, NM doesn't suck, go out and do something for a while.

10-10-2004, 11:53 PM
The girls are hot too :D chicago is boring... lol :p

Interstate
10-11-2004, 12:05 AM
Menaul is about a mile north of central, it's the street just south of Candelaria.

There's some pretty cheap places around campus, and pretty expensive ones. Both are kinda run down from years of college parties.

Got a move date yet?

ajg, does out west have tracks behind their shop, or even room for a track?

TRF Drive Hard
10-11-2004, 12:08 AM

10-11-2004, 02:03 PM
Hey guys, what's going on? I moved out here to Albuquerque almost a year ago. Honestly, I haven't raced since I've been here. I have bashed around at both outdoor tracks once or twice. There is an offroad track in the Coors/Arenal (SW) area. It's very nice, just hosted the ROAR mod nationals in June.

There is also an outdoor onroad track across from the RC airfield on the Westside. It's pretty huge, but haven't seen much action on it (not sure how nitro onroad is doing around here).

I would love to see an indoor onroad track pop up, as I haven't used my electric cars since I got here.

TRF Drive Hard
10-11-2004, 03:22 PM
Well i hoping to put in more track time than bash time... my friends are gonna freak when they see my collection :D

So do you actualy have a skyline, and are you going to drive accross the country?

We should start some sort of club; like the ABQ racers or something.

ajg

Interstate, don't you have a micro.

Here's my setup on my micro:

Chassis: penguin 3500lm w/aktionrc motor mount
motor: Epic biinary2 10 turn (540 motor)
esc: GM V12
servo: Hitec HS81-mg
battery: cp-1300 cells (8 cells)
gears: 58t spur, 31-33t pinion
rear shock: vcs w/30wt oil and soft spring
body: protoform alfa romeo 2.0
other:
GH aluminum knuckles (purple)
GH aluminum front ball diff II (purple)
GH aluminum front universals (purple)
GH aluminum upper bulkhead (purple)
GH aluminum front body posts (purple)
GH aluminum rear body posts (purple)
aluminum front shocks w/hard springs (purple)
rear ball diff (purple aluminum parts)
dual link steering kit
hard front foams
soft rear foams
venom speed meter
and lots of other stuff

I've spent over $1,100 on it, and its top speed in over 70mph.

Did you used to race your micro?

Interstate
10-12-2004, 12:19 AM
I've got a micro, but just use it to leave tire marks on the floor/ground; never raced.

Not as much as you but I'll list anyway
Orion big block motor
novak spy ESC
venom 7.2v 1100mah
13t factory pinion
no rear shock
skyline body

I've spent all my money on my SNRS4, but still needs a few nick nacks...

TRF Drive Hard

Interstate
10-12-2004, 02:28 PM
If you're driving out here from chi town, I suggest you take the road through nebraska and Iowa, over to denver, then turn south. It's a lot faster and way less traffic than through the south.

TRF Drive Hard
10-12-2004, 04:30 PM
Hehe i'll keep that in mind... :D

hmm, I don't know where that is... I'm still new to the street names in ABQ and Santa Fe.

Speaking of Santa Fe, I here on my porch (using wireless internet in 30 degree weather) in the moonlight listening to the coyotes howl and dogs bark. My horses are going nuts too! Too ba ABQ doesn't have these kinda noises.

Well, my parents' house is in Santa Fe, and I'm on thanksgiving break from UNM, and there's nothing better than coming home from school. But I live on campus in abq.

I know where the intel plant is too! It's right next to the Don Chalmers Ford dealership. ( I used to pickup and run cars to and from there)

Off-road:
Venom Mini Giant
Mugen 1/8 buggy
T3

Onroad:
Micro RS4's
Mini-z Overland's
Mugen MTX-2
TC3's
HPI Pro 3

How old are you all? I'm 27, married with 2 kids. List your cars!

You guys prefer onroad or offroad? If we were going to bash I'd probably go with offroad, but it is sooo cold right now! Have anyone of you been to the offroad track at Tom Terino park?

TRF Drive Hard
12-02-2004, 12:23 AM

streetracer
12-02-2004, 07:10 PM
Hey TRF, nice to see you made it past the Indians! :D I had doubts.

Offroad:

S-Maxx
XXX-T G+ (picking up this friday)

Onroad:
XXX-S G+

Im only 18, but I can still through somethin at you on the track! ;)
Go with Losi though if anything there TRF, they will outlast and proform better then associated. Hard for me to say that cuz i used to be an associated guy.

TRF Drive Hard
12-03-2004, 03:37 AM
Kyle, you around here in NM? i chose AE for off-road cause i really liked the B4 profile... since the T4 came out, i like trucks... if anything on-road, im stickin with tamiya! ;)

I have lived in Alamoghetto (Alamogordo) for a little over a year now. We just got our off road track back up and running. Our first race was last month and we actually had a pretty good showing. Some people from El Paso showed up and a bunch of local folks. It made for a great day and, since it was my first race ever, I got to see how some of the good drivers picked their lines and held them.

I didn't realize there was a track in Las Cruces. I had heard they had one a while back but that is was shut down. I went looking for the hobby shops that were listed in the phone book but all of them were out of business. Did someone open one up again?

rstnboy
02-09-2005, 12:24 AM
I was the guy with the electric buggy. I had a few technical issues with it though (besides my lack of driving skills). I had a front shock bust twice and I blew two steering servos. I finally got to finish my last two heats with it using a borrowed servo. It had always done fine just bashing but the track environment was just too much. I was also running 16 cells which was just a bit too much weight for the suspension. Now that I know I don't need to go 45 mph on the track I have since cut that number down to 12 cells. I have most of it repaired/replaced for the next race which is scheduled for the 19th of February if the weather holds out.

Wow, I did not even know there was so much talk about the scene in Alb.

Yes outwest hobbies is/was southwest hobbies and actually at one time ABQ hobby, they closed the other stores and reopend as outwest. Joe and the guys there are great. The track should be getting underconstruction soon (we hope) it will be an on road track small but fun.

The Off-road club is going strong they actually just started their 05 season Sunday and had great turn out. The on road club has kinda gone by the way side....POUT but we are going to get up there and do some work to the tack and get it raceable for those who want to come out and get fast.

we are also trying to get a new location for the street drags so we can get them going in the spring.

if any of you guys are still here and interested in doing some race/bashing pm me and we can hook up for some fun I have a lot of on road guys that are dying to do some kind of running. TRF we mostly run nitro but I am sure we can find a few battery guys for you. LOL.

how many people in and around Alb. area are interested in TC racing on a nice big track. We have a track here on the north westside of Alb. It has typically been run only with nitro cars, and there are some draw backs for the Electric guys As there is no electricity, you would have to provide your own, but it is a small price to pay if you want to race. All we need to do is actually get a crew together that will come out and help us do the maintence on the track and make some changes to the layout, the track is currently set up to run nitro or electric. if you want to see some pics of the track go to http://www.nmrcrcc.com/track.htm

If electricity is a problem, my Dad's shop can install power inverters so you can plug chargers into a socket running off of your battery. I don't know the price but I can't imagine they'd be expensive.

PitStops
02-16-2005, 08:19 PM
ajg,

It is currently just asphalt, we have the equipment to lay down traction compound, but until we have enough people showing all the time we are not going to put down the traction compound it costs about $100.00 per day to put down the compound.

For now we will blow off the track and you can run traction compound on your foams.

Jock if you want to play in the dirt come out the the Arcor track and race in the dirt,
We race electric truck and buggy, gar truck and 1/8 buggy.

I know this has unofficially become the NORTHERN New Mexico forum but I just want to say that we had a great race weekend here in Alamogordo. Even though mother nature threw us for a loop with a little precipitation, we persevered and had a great race day. Tecman Pants came down from Las Cruces (sorry about the transmitter batteries) and joined us for the fun. Hopefully I can venture up your way when the next event happens in Las Cruces! We probably didn't strictly follow the ROAR rules as far a classes go but this is a hobby and is meant for fun and that is exactly what we had. The smell of nitro was in the air along with a few sparks from the battery powered crowd. There were some awesome drivers and some really bad drivers (self included) but everyone met on the racetrack and performed to the best of their abilities, each with the opportunity to pull a miracle out of their backside (which happened more often than you would expect). I personally came home dirty, smelly, and grinning ear to ear. Even after a hot shower I can still smell the track...what a way to spend a Saturday!
