Have any of you guys tried one of these comm lathes? I'm interested in buying one, but I've never heard of them. Was hoping to get some feedback about them. http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif

I've heard of it, but never used that one. I have a Cobra Pro 2000 myself, & am very happy with it(only one I've ever used)..... :)

Filthy Piere on the "Electrc" forum a while back just bought one, but I don't know if he's tried it yet. Sounds like it might be nice. Have been waiting to hear from him.

I have been using and Eagle for a couple of years ago. Very compact lightwieght, and the cross-slide leadscrew is opposite of the drive motor, which makes it much easier to use, since your knuckles don't hit the drive motor.

See ya...

Sir Speedy, Do you use the hand crank or do you use alternating finger thumb pinch hold to turn the feed screw. I hold omy left middle finger on top of tower to help absorb vibrations, while I alternate rt hand, lft hand finger/thumb pinch holds, in 1/4 turn increments. It seems to me that when you use the handle on the feed screw you alternate the direction of force applied to the bit tower causing a small amt of deflection in, out, and sideways on the ways, and tower. Does anyone else use the finger tip method of rotating the feed screw, or am I overdoing it? I'm sure it is a small deflection but it all adds up! Does anyone understand what i'm talking about? Just curious.
Sir speedy did you recomend the Eagle to Filthy Piere? :)

Howdy, yes I bought the Eagle comm lathe. I only just got it working this weekend (Easter). It didn't come with a motor so I had to wait a week to get one.
The lathe is the anodised purple model, with an intermediate driveshaft to eliminate vibration and bearing supports. It has one adjustable support (done by unscrewing the mounting screw) although there is an optional part that makes this adjustable with a knob. It also has a power switch built in to the cutting-tool tower. It came with a carbide bit but no motor.
I used it for the first time this weekend, cutting 3 arms. I guess they turned out ok, I don't have anything to judge them by and I've never used a comm lathe before either. The only thing I noticed is that there is a faint rifling mark on all of the comms, which I've never noticed before (when a friend cut my comm with a diamond-tipped tool). I guess the proof will be in the pudding when I run one of the motors next weekend.
So far, it's performed well, and for $288 Oz ($144 US) it wasn't a bad deal (plus $20 for a cheap 540 motor).

They have them at Speed Tech RC. $75 but they're out of stock right now.
