please read through this, at the end it will be r/c related.

a friend of mine bought some skiis off ebay from a shop in canada. he paid using paypal including shipping costs. when the skiis arived he was told there it was COD. well, he paid the $20 cod and got the skiis. he then called the people in canada and they said that the ups does that with all international shipments. now ups is after him to pay import taxes, another $20. is this all legit or is he getting conned by someone, it is probably true but i was just wondering if anyone had this happen to them.

here is where it is r/c related. if i buy something from canada is this going to happen to me?? does it have to do with a certain price of an item?? will it still happen if i were to buy a car from an individual rather than a business?? would this happen if i sold anything to someone in canada??

sorry for the longwinded message. thanks for any answered questions http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif

Im pretty sure the amount of import tax is related to the price of the item. You are importing it into the US so you have to pay tax. Its like when you leave the country to go somewhere and come back you fill out a form w/ how much you bought, and if you were there for 2 days ou can bring back less than if you were there for 3 days.

Its not a con and if you are ordering something the price of it will be directly propottional to the price. I dont know the exact numbers but if you called UPS or maybe the post office they could tell you

If you send someting to CANADA from the USA. UPS charges a brokerage fee baised on the value of the items sent.
To avoid charges or minimize them:
-mark gift on the shipping info
-do not insure for the full value of the items(risky if it gets lost)
-ship us mail instead of UPS

Shipping from CANADA to the USA i dont think this sort of thing happens

I've sent/received things from the US. HellonU said it right, don't EVER use UPS! Such a rip off! They have their own "handling" fees ontop of duty. I got charged $40 once for a couple of Nikko's(not for me, for my cousins http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif ) worth a big $30 total! Regular USPS or Canada Post is waaaaaaaaay better and cheaper. None of the people that bought stuff from me from the US had to pay duty yet(knock on wood). I mark the items as "gifts" and I write on the label that there's something wrong with the item(ie, glitchy radio, blinking speed control etc).
