I am planning to buy the Profi 403 but I didn't want to get the muliplex receiver. I want to know if any brand besides multimplex that will work with the 403?

Copied directly from the Multiplex info:

AM and FM in one unit!
The PROFI Car transmitter is the first RC system of its kind which can be set to operate in AM mode and FM mode, and it can also be used with the new IPD receivers.
Have you still got vehicles with AM receivers hiding in your workshop? You can now operate all of them, exploiting all the PROFI car’s adjustment facilities for throttle/brake and steering, without having to re-equip.

This can be a great help in an emergency, when money is tight and when you want to try an experiment, and at the same time you don’t have to re-learn how to use old equipment. You don’t even need to swap crystals when you change transmission mode. Simply select the new mode in the menu, and you’re ready for the track!

Guess what? I'm using mine with a Novak Polaris AM (Futaba version) receiver with absolutely no problems. I think it will work with anything you want to use, just as long as you use the receiver brand's Rx crystal.

ALWAYS use Multiplex crystals in the radio and ALWAYS use the manufacturer's crystals in the receiver.

Man, I hope somebody makes a synthesizer module (like the Hitec Spectra) for my Profi soon. That would ROCK!
