View Full Version : Can you measure your dogbones?

I have been running a baja king for about 20 runs or so, and so far I have broken 3 axles. I am running a 16T motor, and a 19T spec motor, so motor power is not the problem. Its just that the dogbones are poorly made for the car. I am out of a race this weekend because of it. I need higher quality dogbones for it. The dogbones have a hole in the end that the cross shaft goes into, and its supported by a teflon ball like thing, most other ones have a metal ball end on it supporting the cross shaft.

My dogbones are 2 3/4" long from cross shaft to cross shaft (you know what I mean). I was figuring RS4MT ones would fit, or maybe some 2wd buggy ones, or duratrax MT ones.

I just need some help please.

I'd rely on tower for specs, but I have no idea what drugs they are on to put some of those specs.

I just thought that this was funny, notice what is required.

And also, I betting on these to fit.

or maybe even

they even use 5X10's

"Requires: The rest of the car."

No kidding? I guess whomever had the job of writing the description for that one was getting tired of their job. I wish that they were able to get specs on such things, ie, length, for those who like to use parts from other vehicles.

I'm in the same boat. I'm going to have to do something similar with my E-Pede. I've bent three MIP CVDs in it so I've been pondering trying to retrofit dog bones from another vehicle into it.

Good luck finding yours, Combatcm!

My freind is working on this one, he still needs to get one part though.

LOL . . those guys/gals at tower hobby sure have fun with the tech notes, I've seen some great ones in there, such as for shiny CVD's, "Will make everyone like you and want to be your friend." :D

Speaking of CVD's, have you looked into fitting it with MIP's? Sorry, don't know the King very well and can't look it up for you.

I know they arent exactly beefy buit why dont u upgrdae to the wild dagger dogbones - they are identical length, but made of steel...

trust me they fit the baja king - its the same suspension as the dagger, and the TL01 diff outputs mount the same way as the daggers so there is no length difference.

I know for a fact HPI rs4mt bones are far too long - about 8mm per bone too long(they are 86mm/3.4" long, the daggers are 78.6 or 3"), which is far too much to let it fit. duratrax max MT bones are 85.5mm/3.36" unfortunatley no good CVD's fit either. GPM make some universal shafts but they have a tendancy to snap/shatter under stress, at least the dagger bones give a little under stress they actually last alot longer....

hope that helps :D

That message was about 5 hours too late. I spent about $60 on a MIP setup. I used B4 CVD's, they fit perfect with some simple mods. It uses wheels without wheel hexes though. But I sanded down some hexes to make it fit. I also had to enlarge the diff shaft channel a small bit. Also, the wheel shaft to the cross pin hole was way longer on the B4 CVD. So, I put a tamiya plastic bushing as a shim inside the hub. You wouldn't believe how great it fits. The dogbone end fits in without popping out and does not bind at full travel. They could stand to be a little longer but they are still fine.

As of now they are mounted on the rear, but I might use the stockers for the front for now then use the WD ones later. But then again, what car has CVD's on the rear and dogbones on the front?

Again, I just bought them on a whim, I had no idea if they would fit, I just took the package and "eyed" it.

I had good luck today, its all finished

Sorry, I also have to show it off.

Yes, those are 1/8 buggy shocks AND the shock mount from an LX pro.

The front ones fit really nice with little binding.

Buy one of these, the TL01 buggy forum is nearly DEAD!

Combatcm, glad to see that you're getting it all worked out. Thanks a bunch for the link in regards to my E-Pede!! I have some reading to do now =)
